“Animal Welfare Groups Are Not a Dumping Site for Your Irresponsibility.”
It took us time to respond because we were carefully choosing our words. However, we have done enough to filter our words so we don't hurt everyone's feelings. People should have done the same level of consideration for the lives depending on you.
So why should we pretend that this is okay?
We are sharing this because situations like this happen far too often, and it is time we re-educate ourselves about what responsible pet ownership really means.
We understand that life changes. Families move. Circumstances change. But here's the uncomfortable question:
Why should your pets be the ones to lose their home because of this circumstance?
If the house you are renting or transferring to does not allow pets, then consider finding another rental that does.
Then you are expecting that these animal welfare groups would take them immediately. Ganyan ba talaga kadali?
Ngano mo oy? Grabe naman sad.
You chose them. They did not choose you.
You decided to bring them into your family. You gave them names. You made them part of your home. They trusted you.
Have you exhausted every responsible option before surrendering them?
Have you looked for another pet-friendly house?
Have you spoken to your landlord?
Have you asked trusted family members?
Have you contacted people within your community?
Have you responsibly screened potential adopters?
Have you given yourself enough time?
Or did you simply reach the point where surrendering them became the easiest option?
Because surrendering them is easy for you.
The difficult part is finding a way to keep the commitment you made.
Paalala lang: Animal welfare organizations are already overwhelmed. We have limited space, limited resources, limited funds, and countless animals needing help.
We are not a dumping site for pets whose owners can no longer accommodate them.
Rescue groups and animal welfare organizations exist to respond to animals in need, not to become the automatic exit plan whenever an owner's circumstances become inconvenient.
And this is not about having no compassion for owners.
We understand that some situations are genuinely impossible.
Look for another place. Adjust your plans. Make sacrifices. Find a way.
Because responsible pet ownership comes with a lifetime commitment.
Not until you move.
Not until you get tired.
Not until your landlord says no.
Not until caring for them becomes inconvenient.
Until the end of their lives.
And please, before you ever bring another animal into your home, think about this—not twice, but hundreds of times.
Can you really commit?
Can you provide for them?
Can you keep them if your circumstances change?
Will you still choose them when life becomes difficult?
Because they did not choose you.
You chose them.
Their lifespan is already heartbreakingly short compared to ours. They only have a limited number of years to spend with us.
Please don't be the reason those years are cut even shorter—or spent wondering why the family they trusted left them behind.
Sama-sama kayo.
Kaunti lang ang lifespan nila. Pinagkait n'yo pa.
Before you get another pet, rethink your capacity.
Before you surrender one, reconsider every possible alternative.
And before you say "wala na kaming choice," make sure you have truly exhausted every humane choice available.
Because sometimes, there is a choice. It's just the harder one.
And responsible pet ownership means choosing them even when it's hard.
