Part 4
A scoping activity on Indigenous Peoples (IP) issues and challenges was held in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, on August 27-28, 2025, bringing together representatives from various ethnic groups across Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Aklan, Zambales, Bataan, Coron, Buenavista, and Romblon. The event provided a meaningful platform for participants to voice pressing concerns, share lived experiences, and highlight long-standing challenges affecting their communities. Key topics discussed included land tenure, access to basic services, cultural preservation, and the importance of inclusive development. The insights gathered during the activity are expected to guide the formulation of relevant policy reforms that genuinely reflect the aspirations, rights, and welfare of Indigenous Peoples in the region.

Celebrating PAFID’s 58-year journey of championing Indigenous Peoples and territories of life 🌿✨🚣‍♀️

The ICCA Consortium commends and celebrates the Philippine Association for Inter-Cultural Development, Inc. (PAFID) for 58 years of steadfast service to Indigenous Peoples.

Philippine Association for Intercultural Development (PAFID) is one of the ICCA Consortium’s founding members, and has been pivotal in securing ancestral domains, advancing lobbying and implementation efforts of the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act, and empowering communities to uphold traditional governance in the Philippines. PAFID’s work has transformed landscapes and strengthened movements for Indigenous Peoples across Southeast Asia.

Today, under the exemplary leadership of Dave De Vera, who is also a member of the Consortium’s Council of Elders, PAFID’s contributions to the development and implementation of the pioneering Indigenous Peoples Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan in the Philippines continue to amplify the voices of Indigenous Peoples in international and national discussions on biodiversity and climate.

PAFID’s legacy—built over nearly six decades of solidarity, resilience, and grassroots action—continues to inspire us all. We look forward to many more years of collective efforts in documenting, defending, and sustaining territories of life.
