The F25 (February 25 Movement) was formed on October 2023, with the specific goal of combating historical revisionism, the rise of disinformation, and the proliferation of the enemies of democracy. F25 rests its ideals on the legacies of national heroes Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr., and President Corazon "Cory" Aquino.

'YOU BETRAYED THE ORIGINAL IDEALS OF THE COLOR YELLOW, AND NOW YOU ARE TRYING TO USE IT AGAIN?'

"You don't just dump the true history of this color and go back to it just to use it again for your impure political plans."

EPILOGUE: EDSA KWARENTA - 40th Anniversary People Power

FINAL EPILOGUE - March 2: THE GHOSTS OF THE MARCOS DICTATORHIP IS ALIVE & WELL.

“Let us not betray our people's faith in us. For if we do, a dictator will come again some day, in the name of national security and stability and do what Marcos did, since after all, Marcos and his associates here and abroad shall have demonstrated for all the world to see that crime pays.”

- Jovito Salonga (1998 speech)

What assurance do we have that no Filipino politician will ever copy and idolize the Marcos dictatorship again, ten, twenty years from now, just like what President Duterte did during his term? All because we have always been nice to the Marcoses and the Romualdezes for years and have always given them a free pass, just like what happened years after the People Power?

Accountability of the Marcos/Romualdez Conjugal Dictatorship

- Twelve years after the 1986 People Power Revolution that gave pride to the Filipino people to the rest of the world internationally, Jovito Salonga delivered this speech: “Let us not betray our people's faith in us. For if we do, a dictator will come again some day, in the name of national security and stability and do what Marcos did, since after all, Marcos and his associates here and abroad shall have demonstrated for all the world to see that crime pays.”

- The words of the speech in itself are a foreboding warning to the Filipino people. Because twelve years after EDSA happened, no one from the Marcos dictatorship ever ended up in jail. Not even any of their cronies. There was practically zero accountability for the Marcoses and the Romualdezes.

- This warning became a reality, when after another 18 years, the new dictator-wannabe was elected to power in 2016 and started issuing his marching orders to kill, kill, kill. This President even buried Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. to the Libingan ng mga Bayani. A move that paved the way for the return of the Marcoses to Malacanang in 2022, after more than decade of social media “golden age” fake news of the martial law regime.

Forty years after People Power 1986

- Forty years after the EDSA Revolution, it still stands; no one has ever spent even one day in jail after the fall of the Marcos dictatorship and his cohorts. With the flood control scandal exploding in the faces of the government last year and the recent report of Prof. Solita Monsod at the recent People Power revolution Annniversary, the most corrupt administrations in recent history ended up being a Marcos (Sr.) government and another Marcos (Jr.) government.

- The Vice-President of the Republic remains embroiled in new impeachment complaints. An impeachment of the Vice President was unjustly archived by our Senate last year. We cannot deny the fact that both Marcos and Duterte have become problematic for our country.

The Ghosts of the Marcos Dictatorship is alive

- For several years, the call to “move-on” has become one of the arguments of pro-Marcos forces and for awhile pro-Duterte forces (before the falling out of B**g B**g Marcos and Sara Duterte became imminent) on social media to forget about the martial law atrocities because it has been a long time and that it’s time for Filipinos to instead unite and forget about the sins of the dictatorship.

- But Jovito Salonga’s quote in 1998, remains relevant as ever in 2026, forty years after EDSA.

- While it is important to hold the Dutertes accountable for the killing of Filipinos and for the Vice-President to face impeachment charges for accusations of constitutional violations, until the ghosts of the Marcos Dictatorship is completely exorcised by chasing that elusive accountability from them which we missed forty years ago. And regardless if the Filipino people can win its accountability from the Dutertes, what assurance do we have that no Filipino politician will ever copy and idolize the Marcos dictatorship again ten, twenty years from now just like what President Duterte did during his term? All because we have always been nice to the Marcoses and the Romualdezes for years and have always given them a free pass, just like what happened years after the People Power?

EDSA KWARENTA - 40th Anniversary People Power
1 DAY TO GO BEFORE PEOPLE POWER.

POST #39 - February 24: THE SINGLE PHONE CALL THAT ENDED A DICTATORSHIP

Cory got a call

The Laxalt Call

In the final hours of his rule, Ferdinand Marcos was calling allies in Washington, hoping to find a way to stay in power. One of those calls reached US Senator Paul Laxalt.

What happened:

• Marcos asked, exhausted and uncertain, “Senator, what should I do?”
• Laxalt replied with words that would echo in history: “Mr. President, I think you should cut, and cut cleanly. The time has come.”
• There was a long silence. Akala ni Laxalt, binaba na ang telepono.
• Then Marcos answered softly, “I am so very, very disappointed.”
In that moment, Marcos realized even the United States would no longer back him.

EDSA KWARENTA - 40th Anniversary People Power
2 DAYS TO GO BEFORE PEOPLE POWER.

POST #38 - February 23: MABUHAY SI CORY!

- Fidel Ramos (Club Filipino - Cory’s arrival)

Mayroon pang brass band nagmamartsa, tunugtog ang “Bayan Ko” at “Tie a Yellow Ribbon.”

- Rolando Domingo (Outside Club Filipino for the Cory swear-in)

In the afternoon of February 24 at 4:30 pm, at the residence of former Speaker Jose B. Laurel in Mandaluyong, nilagdaan ng mga Mambabatas, oposisyon at ilang KBL, at iba pang pangunahing oposisyonista ng rehimeng Marcos ang proklamasyon ni Corazon Aquino at ni Salvador Laurel bilang Presidente at Bise-Presidente alinsunod sa resulta ng February 7 snap elections kung hindi nandaya si Marcos.

On the night of February 24, one important thing still needs to be resolved for Cory and the Opposition forces. Enrile and company wanted to hold Cory’s oath-takling at the multi-purpose hall of Camp Crame and not at Club Filipino in San Juan. According to the rebel soldiers, it will be hard to secure the Club Filipino from any untoward attacks by the loyalist forces of Marcos.

Butz Aquino and ATOM members also helped in securing the Club Filipino surroundings. Together with thousands of other Filipinos who stayed outside of the venue infront of Greenhills.

- At the Times Street, Cory is at least ready.

The car was also bulletproof.

- 9:00 ng umaga sa Club Filipino, nag grand entrance sina Enrile at Ramos, from the helicopter. They are both in combat uniform.

Mayroon pang brass band nagmamartsa, tunugtog ang “Bayan Ko” at “Tie a Yellow Ribbon.”

- Enrile and Ramos’ arrival inside was a pleasant surprise to people inside Club Filipino. No one expected them to attend.

- Doy Laurel escorted Cory to the presidential table where she was offered a bouquet of yellow flowers.
10:40 a.m. - Doy Laurel was sworn in as Vice-President of the Republic of the Philippines. While at 10:46 a.m - Cory Aquino swore in as President of the Republic of the Philippines.

- It was quiet inside Club Filipino as Cory was being sworn in by Justice Claudio Teehankee.

EDSA KWARENTA - 40th Anniversary People Power
3 DAYS TO GO BEFORE PEOPLE POWER.

POST #37 - February 22: Entertainers - Heroes of EDSA

An Enrile aide requested Freddie to position himself at Gate 2, Santolan:

“Walang aalis! Walang aalis!”

- Freddie Aguilar (EDSA Revolution - 1986)

Freddie became a mainstay performer during many anti-marcos rallies regardless of the organization’s ideologies, including the big Luneta rallies. He was the one of many artists who lent without fear, their talents for country. Including Apo, Mitch Valdes, Leah Navarro and other stars during that period. You can count Aga Muhlach as well, since he was one of the celebrities who attended the Cory-Doy Miting De Avance in Luneta.

- A lot of these celebrities may have had questionable moves politically later on in their lives during the post-EDSA era. But one thing is certain, when the country needed them to put their lives on the line. When it was very difficult to do so in the 80’s, they did it. Like every other ordinary Filipino na isinugal ang mga buhay nila alang-alang sa mga susunod na henerasyon ng mga Pilipino.

- According to Freddie, “Pagbaba ko sa gate 2, may apat na madre at apat na seminarista at isang pari na nakatanod.

- Other celebrities who joined the People Power Revolution were Leo Martinez, Heber Bartolome, Johnny Delgado, Behn Cervantes, Lino Brocka and, of course, Kris Aquino, who was then 15.

Johnny Delgado and Bhen Cervantes tried to pacify and explain to the people why Nora is there.

- Nora was one of the recruited celebrities by the Marcos camp to campaign for the Marcos-Tolentino tandem during the snap elections of 1986. But if the people seemed to have forgiven Enrile and Ramos at least during those four days and started supporting them, why not Nora also.

- Enrile immediately embraced Nora upon seeing her in EDSA. It was not easy to just decline offers by Malacanang during that time especially if you are a celebrity making a living.

ATOM STATEMENT: HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY PEOPLE POWER!

This coming Sunday is the 40th Anniversary of when Butz Aquino, Atom founder, made the first call to EDSA, on the night of February 22, 1986. The night People Power was born.

We remember how many people were skeptical that Sunday night, when Butz made that call on Radio Veritas at 10:20 p.m.: "Nandito ako sa Camp Aguinaldo. The call to Atom members and the people.

A call for the ages. A call that many people wanted to dismiss as just another one of those antics by that "crazy old Butz." But it was a call that Cardinal Sin also believed in when he decided to follow the announcement of Butz with his own appeal to the people.

People Power was unheard of up to that time, but People Power has been in the womb of our Motherland, waiting for the right time to be born since Marcos Sr declared Martial Law in 1972.

It was first conceived through the resistance of Filipinos; no matter how small those pocket uprisings and revolts were after martial law was declared. Those actions paved the way for the conception of People Power. But it will take several more years in the womb of our Motherland before it is born on the night of February 22, 1986, in Cubao.

A marker was once installed in that location immediately after the 1986 EDSA Revolution, but just like Butz's initiative in 1986, the marker on the birthplace of People Power has since been lost and forgotten over the last forty years as Filipinos wander in the political desert searching for the promised land and the completion of the unfinished revolution.

Just like any pregnancy, the third trimester was the critical period, from Ninoy's assassination until the Boycott Civil Disobedience of 1986 led by the widow of Ninoy, Cory.

It can never be disputed that Butz Aquino's decision to form the August Twenty-One Movement or Atom after his brother, Ninoy, was murdered in broad daylight, helped organize the middle class and parts of the elite to join the masses in the parliament of the streets. It fast-tracked the readiness of People Power to be born at the earliest time. With all the non-activists joining the fight.

Today, almost forty years since that fateful call, we remain at the crossroads as a nation, as we commemorate the call of that night that nobody ever believed in at first.

It's true that just like in 1986, except for those four miraculous days of February, the people remained fragmented into many factions to this day.

How do we dismantle the Marcos-Duterte corruption? Let us all forcefully push them as a people to pass a legitimate political dynasty bill and jail all the corrupt! Regardless of their names. Whether he's Marcos, Romualdez, or even a Duterte, a disciple of the old dictatorship. Because they will never do it on their own.

The Israelites took forty years in the desert to find their promised land. Notwithstanding the failed promises of the Marcos administration to jail the big fish last December, if People Power is remembered, the values that go with it are reclaimed by the people, we might just reach our own promised land, forty years since we freed ourselves from the chains of our own Egypt, the Marcos Dictatorship.

Happy 40th Birthday, People Power!
Remember, tayo ang People Power!

EDSA KWARENTA - 40th Anniversary People Power
10 DAYS TO GO BEFORE PEOPLE POWER.

POST #30 - February 15: EXILED 20TH CENTURY ILUSTRADOS

“I have no doubt that the valiant struggle and the amazing contributions of overseas Filipinos enormously helped make the Edsa upheaval possible.”

- Heherson Alvarez (NAM & Movement for Free Phils. co-founder)

‘THE OVERSEAS FILIPINO WARRIORS (OFW) OF RESISTANCE’

- In the 19the Century, there were so-called Illustrados with the likes of Marcelo H. Del Pilas, Graciano Lopez Jaena and Dr. Jose Rizal working often from exile to study in Spain and later sought reforms for our Spanish-colonized country.

- When Marcos declared Martial Law, among those who sought refuge in the United States to avoid getting arrested, but continued the fight was Heherson Alvarez. His own brother, Marsman was murdered by Marcos’ intelligence agents. Jaime Cardinal Sin called it “the most heinous crime under martial law.”

- According to Alvarez, “Some of these outstanding Filipinos are familiar to many, the others are almost anonymous today. But among those who passionately labored to change the mindset of American policymakers against Marcos were Raul Manglapus, Raul Daza, Charlie Avila, Steve Psinakis, Ernie Ordonez, Manoling Marovilla, Victor Lovely, Oliver Laurel, Benjamin Lim, Danny Lamila, Esther Paredes, Fernando Pena, and Dr. Fortunato Roxas.”

The Ninoy Aquino Movement in the U.S.

Alvarez’s escape to the US looked like a scene straight from a James Bond movie. He boarded incognito a ship of a Greek captain bound for Hong Kong enroute to other Asian countries, according to Cecile. Throughout the trip, he was holding his breath, restless, sleepless, until he set foot on American soil.

- Alvarez together with Raul Daza and Raul Manglapus were among the core leaders who formed the Movement For Free Philippines in the US. The objective?

To pressure the US to cut its ties with the Marcos Dictatorship.

“There are so many others too numerous to mention here but they stood with us at the ramparts in Washington, D.C. or in the wintry chill in New York’s Lafayette Park, to make their voices heard in protest against the human rights violations in our homeland and against plunder of our country’s assets.”

- One stunning result was that military assistance to the Marcos was slashed by 50 percent.

- On many ocassions, Ninoy Aquino would meet with the core leaders of this exiled group and discuss plans with them. This was when Ninoy himself came to the US to have a heart operation.

- The Ilustrados of the 20th Century. And the parallelism of Dr. Jose Rizal and Ninoy Aquino continues with both having been exiled and discourged at some point from going home.

- The Movement for Free Philippines became the Ninoy Aquino Movement after Ninoy was assasinated, It became “the biggest and best organized opposition movement in the United States.”

NINOY'S LAST WORDS

- Raul Daza would later share in his book ( Raul Daza's Memoirs A Life: Years of Crisis) and recount how in his last meeting with Ninoy before going home, Ninoy told them, “if something happens to me, you should all go home.”

- One by one the exiled resistance followed his will, Daza went home in 1985.

- Daza further shared how Butz Aquino met them in Hong Kong to fetch their group until they all reached the Manila International Airport safely. This is Butz’s way to make sure that what happened to his brother does not happen to his exiled compatriots.

The trauma remains in post-EDSA 86

- For the Filipinos in the United States who led the resistance against the martial law regime, the long arm of American justice continued to bedevil them long after the 1986 Edsa People Power Revolution.
- Some mornings, a few would wake up in sweat, roused by nightmares of being chased by Marcos assassins. (SEE IMAGES BELOW)
