Why UGAT at DIGNIDAD?

The name Ugat at Dignidad was chosen because it reflects both where the work begins and how it must be done.

Ugat means roots.

It speaks to ancestry, land, culture, and identity, especially for Indigenous Peoples and Tribal Communities whose lives are deeply connected to their roots. It also reflects our belief that meaningful change must be grounded: starting from the community, from lived realities, and from listening first. For this foundation, ugat also means beginning at home and growing responsibly from there.

Dignidad means dignity.

It is the principle that guides every action of the foundation. Support should never humiliate, exploit, or reduce people to objects of charity. Dignidad means respecting culture, honoring consent, and recognizing that communities are not problems to be fixed, but partners with knowledge, strength, and agency.

Together, Ugat at Dignidad expresses our core commitment:
to support Indigenous and Tribal Communities in ways that are rooted in culture and carried out with dignity.

The name is a reminder that help must have roots, and that dignity must never be compromised.

This is not about one-time help. It’s about listening, starting small, and committing to continuity. If you choose to support or share this, you become part of the beginning.

Hindi lang tumutulong. Nagpupundasyon.

I was born and raised in Puerto Princesa City, a place known for its beauty, its forests, and its people. Growing up here, I learned early that while Palawan is often celebrated as a paradise, there are communities, especially our Tagbanua brothers and sisters, who continue to live quietly at the ma
