For some, farming is a calling. For others, it becomes a second chance — a path to rediscover purpose and rebuild confidence. For 23-year-old Seth Luigi Borbon, aquaculture did exactly that, giving him the chance to prove himself after becoming an out-of-school youth in 2023.

Borbon’s determination and innovation caught the attention of the Department of Agriculture’s Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) in 2023, where he developed a Smart Water Quality Monitoring System — an Internet of Things (IoT)-based device that continuously monitors water parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, and temperature.
