From the early 1930’s to late 1950’s, associations of architects were founded, but only three survived until the early 1970’s–the Association of Philippine Government Architects (APGA), League of Philippine Architects (LPA), and the Philippine Institute of Architects (PIA). In June 1973, President Ferdinand E. Marcos issued Presidential Decree 223, creating the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) regulating all professions and accrediting only one organization to represent each profession which was called the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP). The rebirth of the new PIA organization (Manila Section - Philippine Institute of Architects, Inc.) was founded, aims to continue the tradition of the Philippine Institute of Architects whose founded in 1933, together for the purpose of forming a non-stock corporation under laws of the Republic of the Philippines on June 24, 2004 by nine (9) architects, namely:

The Manila Section - Philippine Institute of Architects, Inc. was registered at the Securities & Exchange Commission with a company registration no. CN200418655, dated December 7, 2004.
