Courtesy Meetings for the 2027 Philippine Folk Dance Festival
The Philippine Folk Dance Society (PFDS) recently conducted a series of courtesy meetings with Gov. Noel Rosal, Mayor Hisham Ismail of Legazpi City, Ms. Dorothy Colle and Mr. Billy Balin Jr of the Provincial Tourism, Culture, and Arts Office (PTCAO) as part of the preparatory and alignment phase for the launch of the Philippine Folk Dance Festival, scheduled for May 2027 in Legazpi City.
Representing the PFDS were National Chapter President Mr. Ronnie Mirabuena, together with PFDS-Bicol University Local Chapter Officers Dr. Carina Sales and Prof. John Lood. The meetings provided an opportunity to discuss key program components, collaborative initiatives and areas of partnership with local executive leaders and tourism stakeholders in preparation for this major national cultural undertaking.
The transition from the National Folk Dance Workshop to the Philippine Folk Dance Festival marks a significant milestone in the continued growth of this flagship program. More than a training initiative, the festival will serve as a comprehensive platform that brings together workshops, performance showcases, exhibitions, research conferences, and other cultural activities that celebrate and promote the rich folk dance traditions of the Philippines.
PFDS warmly welcomes the generous partnership and support of the Provincial Government of Albay, the City Government of Legazpi, Bicol University, and the PFDS–BU Chapter in making this national undertaking possible.
Among the major highlights being envisioned for the festival are:
• Indak Pilipinas – a national dance production to be presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines
• PANUHID: National Dance Research Forum – a gathering of scholars, researchers, educators, and cultural workers to be curated by the NCCA National Committee on Dance
• Magayon Festival – to be spearheaded by the Provincial Tourism, Culture and Arts Office of Albay, showcasing the province’s vibrant cultural heritage and artistic traditions
• Trade Fair and Tourism Events – to be organized by the City Government of Legazpi, highlighting local products, destinations, and tourism initiatives
The Philippine Folk Dance Festival aspires to become a premier national platform for cultural exchange, artistic excellence, research, and community engagement, bringing together dancers, educators, researchers, cultural workers, and enthusiasts from across the country.
We are excited to share this landmark celebration of Philippine culture and heritage with everyone. Stay tuned for more announcements and updates as we move closer to May 2027.
