๐ฟ Mangroves are superheroes in the fight against climate change!
During the 11th ASEAN+3 Junior Science Odyssey (APT JSO-11), Dr. Severino G. Salmo III of the University of the Philippines Diliman Institute of Biology highlighted the vital role of mangroves and other coastal ecosystems in building a more climate-resilient future.
In his lecture on the Blue Carbon Economy, Dr. Salmo emphasized that mangroves are more than coastal features. Their remarkable ability to capture and store vast amounts of carbon while serving as natural protective buffers makes them invaluable assets in addressing the impacts of climate change.
His discussion challenged young science delegates to recognize the untapped potential of coastal ecosystems and rethink how their value can be integrated into development strategies for a more sustainable future.๐ฑ
The Philippines, through the DOSTโPhilippine Science High School System, is hosting this yearโs APT JSO-11, bringing together young science talents from across the ASEAN+3 region under the theme โClimate Action and Responsible E-nnovation for Sustainabilityโ (ASEAN+3 CAReS), from July 5โ10, 2026, in Clark Freeport Zone, Philippines.
