For ๐—˜๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ๐—ผ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜ ๐—๐—ฟ., ๐—•๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฎ, becoming good at something didnโ€™t begin with natural talent. It began with the willingness to keep learning even when the work felt unfamiliar.

Eduardo entered the professional world in January 2023 as an Coming from Computer Engineering with a stronger personal interest in hardware and electronics, transitioning into a coding-intensive role was challenging. At first, the work felt difficult and overwhelming.

But what Eduardo lacked in confidence, he answered with effort.

He studied independently.
He practiced at home.
He learned through actual experience.
And he kept showing up.

Gradually, the tasks that once intimidated him became the tasks he knew how to handle.

After two years, Eduardo was promoted to ๐—ฆ๐˜†๐˜€๐˜๐—ฒ๐—บ๐˜€ ๐——๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ at Sumidenso Automotive Technologies Asia Corporation. And perhaps one of the best measures of how far he has come is this: he now helps train new members of his team.

But his story of learning from a disadvantage started much earlier.

When Eduardo entered college, his Senior High School strand was not aligned with Computer Engineering. While some classmates already had experience with advanced mathematics, he was encountering subjects such as Calculus without the same foundation.

So he found another way forward.

He watched tutorials. He studied at home. He asked classmates to teach him. Instead of being embarrassed about what he didnโ€™t know, he allowed himself to learn from the people around him.

The projects, thesis development, and hands-on experiences he encountered in the ๐—–๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—˜๐—ป๐—ด๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐——๐—ฒ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ further strengthened that mindset. His thesis prototype, in particular, became one of his most memorable experiencesโ€”not because it was easy, but because it showed him what could happen when technical knowledge, teamwork, and persistence came together.

Today, that same student who once had to catch up continues to learn, build electronics projects, develop systems, and guide people who are only beginning their own professional journey.

โ€œMy advice to current CpE students is, If you are struggling, it doesnโ€™t mean you wonโ€™t succeed. Challenges are part of the journeyโ€”just donโ€™t give up. Keep pushing forward, and youโ€™ll eventually grow through the experience.โ€

And perhaps his journey is the best proof of those words.

Being behind does not mean you cannot catch up.
Finding something difficult does not mean you are incapable of mastering it.
And struggling today does not determine where you will be tomorrow.

Sometimes, the person who enters the workplace feeling like they know the least becomes the person who eventually has something valuable to teach.

๐—ฃ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ, ๐—•๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฎ, entering the professional world meant learning how to believe in himself while still having so much to learn.

He began his career as an ๐—”๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐—˜๐—ป๐—ด๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ, where being the youngest member of the team initially made him conscious of his limited experience. Add to that a fully work-from-home setup, and he had to learn not only the technical side of the job, but also how to communicate, collaborate, and grow professionally from behind a screen.

He didn't overcome that uncertainty by pretending to know everything.

He learned from his mistakes. He familiarized himself with the tools and programming languages around him. And little by little, the young professional who once lacked confidence became someone capable of navigating the demands of the industry.

His journey would eventually come full circle when he became an ๐—œ๐—ง ๐—œ๐—ป๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—ฃ๐—ฆ๐—จโ€“๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐˜‚๐˜€โ€”this time, standing on the other side of the classroom and sharing knowledge with students beginning journeys of their own.

Today, John Joshua continues to move forward as an

But before all of these roles came the student who had to navigate college during a pandemic.

Online classes tested his discipline and motivation. Calculus challenged him academically. Yet through those difficult years, the experiences and relationships he built as a Computer Engineering student helped him develop the discipline, collaboration, and perseverance he would later carry into his professional life.

And among all those memories, his thesis journey remains unforgettable.

There were sleepless nights spent working together, staying at classmates' houses, shared meals, games in between deadlines, and countless moments of helping one another finish what they started. What was stressful then became one of the memories he now treasures most.

Perhaps that is why one of his reflections carries so much weight:

โœจ โ€œI wish I had known how quickly college would pass by.โ€

For the students currently overwhelmed by deadlines, difficult subjects, projects, and uncertainties about what comes after graduationโ€”work for the future, but don't rush through the present.

Ask questions while you can.
Learn from your mistakes.
Treasure the people beside you.
And don't let failure convince you that you aren't capable.

โ€œBelieve in yourself, and donโ€™t be afraid to fail or face rejection because neither defines your worth or your potential. Failure and rejection are not the endโ€”theyโ€™re part of the learning process.โ€

From being the youngest person on the team, to becoming an instructor, and now taking another step forward in the industry, his journey reminds us that you don't need to have everything figured out to beginโ€”you simply have to remain willing to learn.

Many students hesitate to pursue Computer Engineering because they believe they need to be good at programming before they even begin.

๐——๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐˜‚, ๐—–๐—ฝ๐—˜, ๐—•๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฎ, is living proof that you don't.

She entered the Computer Engineering program with no background in programming, electronics, or hardware. She simply believed she could learnโ€”and that belief became the starting point of everything that followed.

College was far from easy. Programming and circuit design tested her patience, while the pandemic forced her to become an independent learner. Instead of giving up, she embraced every opportunity to improve. She built projects on her own, challenged herself to keep learning, and discovered that progress doesn't happen overnightโ€”it happens one step at a time.

The experiences, projects, and hands-on learning she gained throughout the Computer Engineering Department helped build the technical foundation, discipline, and resilience that prepared her for the professional world.

After graduation, Erica joined Accenture as an Associate SAP ABAP Developer, where she faced another unfamiliar challengeโ€”learning an entirely new technology stack. Through perseverance and a willingness to continuously grow, she gradually developed her expertise.

Today, she serves as a Packaged App Development Analyst while also taking on the role of a Sub-Lead, mentoring teammates, answering technical concerns, and helping others succeed within their team.

Her journey reminds us that leadership doesn't always begin with confidenceโ€”it begins with the willingness to learn.

Beyond the achievements and career milestones, Erica treasures the friendships she built throughout college. Even during stressful thesis days, she and her friends always found reasons to laugh, support one another, and make the journey worthwhile.

๐Ÿ’ก Her advice to every CpE student:

"Do not be afraid to start small, because we all have our own time. Your efforts will bear fruit, and with persistence, you will never go wrong.

It is okay to feel tired, and it is important to take a restโ€”your well-being matters just as much as your dreams.

Your strengths and weaknesses are the foundations of who you are; you know yourself better than anyone else. Believe in what makes you happy, and let that guide your journey."

To every student who thinks they're "not good enough" to become a Computer Engineer, remember this:

You don't have to know everything before you start.

You only need the courage to begin, the humility to keep learning, and the perseverance to continue moving forward.

Because every expert was once a beginner.

Some lessons can't be found in textbooks. They are learned through late nights, failed experiments, unexpected setbacks, and the courage to keep trying.

๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ผ, ๐—–๐—–๐—ฝ๐—˜, ๐—•๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฎ, every challenge became an opportunity to grow.

Starting his career as an Associate Software Engineer, Jameson quickly discovered that entering the software industry meant adapting to technologies, client expectations, and real-world challenges that extended far beyond the classroom. Rather than being intimidated by the unknown, he embraced continuous learning, welcomed every opportunity to improve, and transformed each project into a stepping stone toward becoming the Software Supervisor he is today.

His journey began long before his professional career.

During college, their thesis became one of his greatest teachers. Responsible for the technical development of their project, he spent countless hours designing systems, debugging code, testing prototypes, and solving problems through persistence and self-learning. Along the way, he even accidentally burned several electronic components while troubleshootingโ€”an experience he now remembers as proof that innovation often comes with mistakes before success.

Today, his story reminds every aspiring Computer Engineer that experience is earned by doing, not by avoiding failure.

๐Ÿ’ก His advice to every CpE student is simple yet powerful:

"Focus on building practical skills and real-world experience, not just earning good grades. Don't be afraid to make mistakes... Those experiences taught me valuable lessons that I could never learn from textbooks alone."

He also leaves students with a valuable reminder:

"Stay curious, be persistent when facing challenges, and enjoy the learning process. The skills and experience you gain today will become the foundation of your future career."

To every CpE student debugging a difficult program, rebuilding a broken circuit, or wondering if the effort is worth itโ€”remember that every engineer you admire once stood exactly where you are today.

Keep learning.
Keep experimenting.
Keep building.

Because every challenge today is preparing you for the opportunities of tomorrow.

In support of the College of Engineering and Architecture's ELASTICOSโ€“S.A.F.E. Program (Safe, Accountable, and Functional Environment), the Computer Engineering Department proudly joined this college-wide initiative to help cultivate a learning environment that is clean, organized, safe, and conducive to academic excellence.

Before the first lecture is delivered, before the first circuit is assembled, and before the first line of code is written, the CpE community came together with one shared purposeโ€”to prepare a learning space where every student can discover, innovate, and thrive.

Through the collective efforts of our student volunteers, ICpEP.se officers, faculty members, and staff, classrooms, laboratories, and workspaces were cleaned, organized, and revitalized in preparation for the new semester. Every swept floor, organized laboratory, and refreshed workspace reflected not only teamwork, but also our shared commitment to creating an environment where learning, innovation, and collaboration can flourish.

More than a cleanup initiative, the ELASTICOSโ€“S.A.F.E. Program reminds us that maintaining a Safe, Accountable, and Functional Environment is a shared responsibility. Every act of serviceโ€”no matter how simpleโ€”helps build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence that strengthens the entire Computer Engineering community.

To everyone who generously shared their time, effort, and dedicationโ€”thank you. Your spirit of volunteerism and bayanihan continues to reflect the values that define the CpE Department: leadership, service, excellence, and unity.

As we begin another semester, may we carry this same spirit beyond our classrooms and laboratoriesโ€”into every project, organization, competition, and opportunity that comes our way. Together, we don't just prepare better learning spacesโ€”we cultivate a stronger, more connected, and more resilient Computer Engineering community.

Here's to another semester of learning, innovation, service, and excellence.

Not every successful career follows the path you originally imagined.

Sometimes, the journey asks you to pause, adapt, and discover where you truly belong.

For ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ ๐—๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ต๐˜‚๐—ฎ ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป, ๐—•๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฎ, becoming successful wasn't about never facing obstaclesโ€”it was about refusing to let those obstacles define him.

Mark started his career as a Full Stack Developer, where he experienced both the excitement and pressure of building software. Long hours of coding tested him physically and mentally, and there were moments when motivation was difficult to find. Yet instead of seeing change as failure, he embraced it as growth.

Today, he serves as a Mid Software QA Engineer in Dubai, UAE, where his experience as a developer allows him to view systems from a different perspectiveโ€”ensuring software quality, solving complex problems, and helping deliver reliable applications that thousands of people depend on every day.

His story reminds us that success isn't about staying on one road forever. It's about having the courage to evolve, discover new strengths, and keep moving forward.

Like many students whose college years were shaped by the pandemic, Mark also struggled with online learning. Programming didn't come naturally to him, and staying motivated while learning remotely wasn't easy. But through consistent practice, persistence, and the humility to ask questions, he gradually transformed uncertainty into confidence.

One of the proudest moments of his college life came during their thesis journey. Working with different personalities brought challenges, disagreements, and countless revisions, but it also taught him the value of teamwork, trust, and perseverance. Those lessons paid off when his group became the first in their batch to successfully complete and defend their thesisโ€”a milestone that proved what determination and collaboration can achieve.

Beyond technical knowledge, the Computer Engineering Department helped cultivate the resilience, critical thinking, and problem-solving mindset that continue to guide him throughout his professional journey.

๐Ÿ’ก Advice to Current CpE Students

"Walang nag sisimula na magaling, lahat from the scratch."

โœจ One realization he wishes he knew earlier

"I wish I had known earlier that practical skills and hands-on practice are more important than theory alone, as they greatly help when entering the real working environment."

To every CpE student who feels overwhelmed by programming, discouraged by setbacks, or uncertain about the futureโ€”remember that every line of code you write, every mistake you fix, and every challenge you overcome is preparing you for something greater.

Keep learning.
Keep building.
Keep believing in yourself.

Because every accomplished engineer once looked at a blank screen, unsure of what to do next.

And just like Mark, your greatest breakthrough may begin the moment you decide not to give up.
