Noong Hunyo 12, 1898, idineklara ng Pilipinas ang kasarinlan mula sa higit sa 300 taon ng kolonyal na pamumuno ng Espanya, isang makasaysayang kaganapan na nagbago ng takbo ng ating bansa. Sa pamumuno ni Emilio Aguinaldo, ang deklarasyon ay opisyal na inihayag sa kanyang tahanan sa Kawit, Cavite, kung saan unang itinataas ang watawat ng Pilipinas at tinugtog ang pambansang awit.

Ang araw na ito ay hindi lamang simbolo ng ating pagnanais sa kalayaan kundi pati na rin ng mga sakripisyo ng maraming bayani na matapang na lumaban laban sa pang-aapi.

Sa ating pagdiriwang ng makasaysayang okasyong ito, alalahanin natin ang makapangyarihang salitang: โ€œSa manlulupig, di ka pasisiil.โ€ Nawaโ€™y pahalagahan natin ang legasiya ng ating mga ninuno sa pamamagitan ng pagpapalaganap ng mga halaga ng kalayaan, demokrasya, at pagmamahal sa bayan sa ating mga puso.
