The Pest Management Society kicked off SIKAD Day 1 by joining the parade from the Visionary Gate to the Dr. Pedro A. Abella Graduation Site and by giving our first-year students a warm and exciting welcome to the Department of Crop Protection!

Through informational games, educational leaflets, interactive discussions, free candies, and button pins, PMS introduced the department and shared insights about the field and its opportunities. They also discussed the different specializations under the department, along with the hands-on activities involved in each, helping our freshies better understand what awaits them in their academic journey. 🦋☘️

We hope you left with new knowledge and a glimpse of the vibrant community waiting for you here! 🔰

You are more than graduates — you are future w**d scientists, plant pathologists, and entomologists who will protect crops, strengthen food security, and help farmers cultivate a healthier and more sustainable future. Every late-night study session, laboratory activity, fieldwork under the sun, and research paper has prepared you to become defenders of agriculture.

Just like resilient plants thriving against pests, diseases, and w**ds, you continued to grow through every obstacle. And now, it’s finally your season to bloom. 🌟

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | 𝗗𝗿. 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝘆𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗢𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗼-𝗣𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻

The Department of Crop Protection is proud to announce that one of its faculty members has successfully completed her 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 (Plant-Pathogen Interaction) at 𝗧𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘄𝗮 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻.

Her path was never easy, marked by the challenges of being away from loved ones. However, through patience and perseverance, she has navigated this demanding journey and is finally ready to come home.

As this chapter concludes and a new door opens, she returns to her home department to share her expertise with colleagues and students, contributing to the honing of future agriculturists.

𝗕𝗘𝗘-𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀: 𝗗𝗖𝗣’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀

The 𝗗𝗖𝗣 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺, under the leadership of 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗝𝗮𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗲 𝗛. 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗼𝘆 recently spearheaded a tree-planting activity to expand the stingless bee project at its new location near the College of Agriculture Dormitory. The event featured the planting of 𝟭𝟮𝟱 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, which will serve as a bee pasture alongside various flowering plants established before the event.

The initiative drew active participation from DCP faculty, most notably retired entomologist professor 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗦. 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗲, alongside 𝗣𝗠𝗦 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 and 𝗖𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧 𝟯𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. This effort supports Assoc. Prof. Estigoy’s vision to boost local pollinator populations and improve fruit tree pollination across the college. Beyond its ecological impact, the site will serve as a research hub and an immersive outdoor classroom for students to study beneficial insects up close.

The department extends its sincere gratitude to all who contributed to the event's success, with special thanks to the PMS members for organizing the event and to Dr. Labe for her insightful introductory lecture. Additional appreciation goes to 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗟𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝘇 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴 for donating 20 bags of compost, and to 𝗗𝗿. 𝗝𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗝. 𝗝𝘂𝗮𝗻, Acting Dean of the College of Agriculture, for his firm support of the department’s initiatives.

Currently, the 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 operates through two strategic branches: the newly expanded site at the College of Agriculture and the branch integrated into CLSU’s 𝗞𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗚 Agritourism Site. Both bee projects are managed by the DCP, with support from the 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗖𝗔𝗧 𝗞𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗚 project led by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝘆𝗿𝗮𝗵 𝗕. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼 under 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧-𝗣𝗖𝗔𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗗’𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗖𝗔𝗧 Program.

On March 7, 2026, the Pest Management Society kicks off the project “𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘀, 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝗱𝘀” at the College of Agriculture!

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠!🧑🏻‍🌾

We're wrapping up the first-ever seminar and workshop on Smart and Safe Agriculture, hosted by the Pest Management Society. It was fantastic to see our students and faculty come together to learn the latest techniques for pest control.

As a part of the workshop and mass work, we rolled out a college-wide mosquito misting and mound demolition effort, putting our new knowledge into action. This initiative is just one of the many ways we're working to create a safer, healthier campus and community.🍃🌳

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, as well as to all the sponsors—LEADS Environmental Health Products Corp., R3PMAPI, and Well-Built Pest Management—and to the participating pest control companies who shared their expertise.

We're excited to apply these new skills to create more sustainable and effective agricultural practices.
