[REPOST]

Kadaiyahan SEAtizen Science Program 2026 launched its field bootcamp on March 5โ€“7, 2026, bringing together 24 SEAtizen Scientists from across the Davao Region for hands-on learning and data collection on coastal issues.

During the three-day activity, participants moved from classroom sessions to field engagement, working with the Sama-Badjao community in Bucana, Davao City. SEAtizen Scientists examined key concerns affecting coastal areas, including waste management, mangrove loss, and water quality, while learning directly from the experiences of the community.

The bootcamp allowed participants to apply basic citizen science methods: observing, documenting, and engaging with local residents, to better understand environmental conditions and their impacts on daily life. The said activity is an important step in building youth involvement in science and community-based solutions.

The program continues to promote Sea, Science, Service, and Stories, encouraging young leaders to take part in protecting marine ecosystems through informed action.

The tide is callingโ€”and they have answered.
We humbly present the team representatives of Dyesabel Philippines โ€“ Nabunturan Chapter, Team P.E.A.R.L.S. ๐Ÿฆช๐ŸŒŠ as they rise to the challenge in the upcoming KADAIYAHAN: Dyesabels Seatizen Scientist Program.

United by purpose and passion, they carry the mission of protecting our oceans, empowering communities, and creating a sustainable future for our planet and our country. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Their stilt roots trap organic material and stabilize soils, creating longโ€‘term reservoirs of carbon that can remain locked away for centuries. This makes them critical contributors to climate mitigation and coastal resilience.

Beyond their role in carbon storage, Rhizophora species also regulate carbon fluxes through processes such as litterfall, decomposition, and tidal export. These dynamics mean they can act as both carbon sinks and sources, depending on local conditions and species composition. Such complexity underscores the importance of studying Rhizophora mangroves across different tropical and subtropical regions to fully understand their contribution to global carbon budgets.

Protecting and restoring Rhizophora mangrove forests enhances their carbon sink capacity while safeguarding biodiversity and coastal protection. As climate change intensifies, these ecosystems stand out as natureโ€‘based solutions that combine carbon sequestration with shoreline stability. Their preservation is therefore both an ecological necessity and a climate imperative.

The Philippines is a nation surrounded by seas, rich in marine biodiversity, and full of natural wonders. In the southern part of the country lies the Davao Gulf, a body of water that connects communities, nurtures life, and sustains countless livelihoods. Beneath its calm, blue surface exists a vibrant world of coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, and marine speciesโ€”a living ecosystem that teaches us the value of balance, harmony, and care.

For those of us pursuing marine biology, tourism, and education, the Davao Gulf is both a classroom and a source of inspiration. It reminds us of the vital role our oceans play in sustaining life, shaping cultures, and connecting people to nature. Through research, learning, and responsible engagement, we see firsthand how ecosystems like the Davao Gulf contribute to our communities, our food, and our shared identity.

The beauty and abundance of this gulf call for both admiration and action. Its waters, wildlife, and natural resources are treasures to be cherished, celebrated, and protected. As stewards of the environment, we recognize our responsibility to conserve, educate, and inspire othersโ€”ensuring that the Davao Gulf continues to thrive for generations to come.

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’™ Let us celebrate and protect the richness of our oceans, for they are life, learning, and legacy all at once.
