“The Young & The Curious: The RCMFZ Adaptation Project for Maternal Care & Child Health- Implementation of Priority Grant Part 2-B”

AOF:
● Maternal Care & Child Health
● Disease Prevention & Treatment
● Basic Education & Literacy
● Peace & Conflict Resolution

RCMFZ recently held the 3rd staging of its District Priority Grant Availment at the San Pedro Relocation Center National High School last November 22, 2024 Friday from 8am to 4pm entitle “The Young & the Curious”. It catered to some 2000plus grades 11 & 12 students and which saw in action also about 50 faculties who accompanied and joined said students during the event with the help of some 20 school facilities staff.

Again, this implementation has been aligned with one of the main thrusts of Precious Irresistible District (3830) Governor Precita “Prescy” V. Yulo which is “the Maternal & Child Health” and correlated to the “First 1000 Days” program of the government.

Details of the morning session which targeted some 1000plus students are as follows:

1. Discussion on Teenage & Child Pregnancy by Dra. Laurice Jay C. Lustestica, MD FP OGS a member and representing also the Pasay Paranaque Medical Society of the Philippine Medical Association.
2. Discussion on Mental Health by FSI Joan M. San Juan, RPSY/RPM, officer of the Bureau of Fire Protection and was accompanied by 4 other BFP personnel.

The afternoon session also included Dra. Lustestica and FSI San Juan. In addition, Anti-Bullying, Anti-Cyber Bullying & Harassment & Catcalling were also tackled by Sucgang Law Office of PIP Atty. Reynaldo Ross IV Sucgang of RC Lex et Salus, represented by Atty. Sam Guanzon as substitute speaker.

Understanding teenage pregnancy requires more than addressing the physical and societal aspects; it demands an in-depth analysis and consideration of the mental health challenges young and curious individuals face. Through awareness, such as this event, support systems, and open dialogue, which was also included in the event format, society especially the immediate family members such as the parents and guardians, can better and well guide teenagers and children.

Indeed, the complex interplay between youth, curiosity, and mental health underscores the urgency of addressing teenage pregnancy and mental health as well as anti-bullying & anti-harassment.

Some 1000 bottled waters and 1000 cupcakes and fudgee bars, donated by the 22 D3830 co-hosts clubs, were distributed to students who participated in the afternoon session. Two other D3830 Clubs donated some 80 Jolly Hotdogs and Hamburger Champs, and 120 food packed lunch donated by Councilor VJ Solidum, were given to the attending faculties and Rotarians. RC Metro Santa Rosa donated 100pcs tumblers, RC Antipolo Centro distributed beauty products and RC Manila South provided T-Shirts and Leggings.

Said event was co-hosted by 27 Rotary Clubs including 24 from D3830, 13 D3810, 1 D3820 & 1 D3800.
