A Doctor of Library and Information Science (DLIS) program might soon be offered in the Philippines for the first time.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) recently conducted a site visit at the University of Perpetual Help System Laguna (UPHSL) to evaluate the university's application to offer the program. This visit is a critical step in the approval process, as CHED assesses the proposed curriculum, faculty qualifications, available facilities, and institutional support to ensure the program meets rigorous academic standards.

If approved, the DLIS program at UPHSL would be a landmark achievement for Philippine higher education, potentially paving the way for advanced research and scholarship in the field of library and information science within the country.

What started with one school visit led to over 38,000 libraries! After years at Microsoft, John Wood set off on a trek through Nepal in search of perspective. What he found was a rural school with empty shelves and children eager to learn. One year later, he kept his promise: returning with books carried by yaks and a brand-new mission.

That moment sparked the creation of Room to Read, a global non-profit that has now reached over 20 million children with access to books, education, and opportunity. His journey continues to inspire, reminding us what purpose can look like in action.
