LOOK: Jewelers and Meycauayanos attended the small group seminar on account of ‘Project Meycauayan:JewelRise’ on Friday, November 14, at the Meycauayan City Hall.
The seminar delved into the dying industry of jewelry in the ‘Jewelry Capital of the Philippines’, highlighting the main problems faced by our local jewelry artisans.
Speaker and Meycauayan Jewelers Industry Association (MJIA) Chairperson, Mrs. Cecilia Ramos, emphasized the significant decrease in the number of artisans as one of the major problems in the industry.
“Ang mga platero natin, tumatanda na. Kaya dapat makapag-aral na [ng paggawa ng alahas] ‘yong mga bata. Pero, ayaw naman ng mga bata mag-aral nito dahil ito raw ay mahirap,” shared Mrs. Ramos.
She also reminded the youth to not always wish for the latest gadgets and choose jewelry instead for better investment.
“Intindihin niyo, jewelry is a good investment, gadgets, no,” she added.
Apart from the problems faced by the jewelry industry, the speaker also featured the distinction of Meycauayan-crafted jewelry from others.
The event ended with a short Q&A session with Mrs. Cecilia Ramos, and a mini raffle for the audience.
‘Project Meycauayan:JewelRise’ is spearheaded by 4th-year journalism of Bulacan State University, aiming to uphold the declining industry of jewelry making in the capital of fine jewelry, Meycauayan, Bulacan.
