Dominican College of San Juan officially launched its much-anticipated Sportsfest 2026 on Wednesday, bringing together students, faculty, and parents to celebrate teamwork, school spirit, and athletic excellence.

The day began with a vibrant motorcade, featuring varsity school players and representatives from all teams, parading through the streets of San Juan City. The convoy followed the route from Dominican, Blumentritt, N. Domingo, Pinaglabanan, P. Guevarra, Luna Street, Shaw Boulevard, back to Blumentritt, and returning to Dominican, drawing cheers from students, parents, and community members along the way. The motorcade served as a spirited prelude to the official festivities at the college grounds.

Back at the school, the Parade of Players showcased students from Nursery to College, each grade marching with energy, determination, and school pride. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as the youngest players displayed wonder and enthusiasm, while senior students demonstrated leadership and confidence. Faculty members and parents joined the procession, adding to the sense of community and celebration.

The formal program opened with the Doxology, followed by the singing of the National Anthem led by Himig Dominicana. Vice President of the Sports Club, Ms. Charlize Kate Salva, delivered the opening remarks, encouraging students to embrace sportsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork throughout the games.

The highlight of the ceremony was the Lighting of the Torch, symbolizing unity, passion, and the spirit of competition. Outstanding athletes and NCR Meet qualifiers, including Marcella Sofia Jasul, Samantha Elumbaring, and Alexa Olaรฑo, led this meaningful tradition, followed by the Hoisting of Banners by team captains and the Oath of Sportsmanship, pledging fairness, respect, and integrity in every game.

Finally, the Ceremonial Toss and official declaration by Directress Sr. Ma. Goretti S. V***a, O.P., formally opened Sportsfest 2026.

With cheers echoing across the campus, Sportsfest 2026 is set to be a thrilling celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and school pride, promising unforgettable games, meaningful friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime.

There are days when watching the news feels less like staying informed and more like sitting front row in a show we never auditioned for. Every headline seems to arrive with new twists, new accusations, new secrets revealed, and then quickly covered again. It is almost theatrical โ€” except the consequences are real, and the audience is the Filipino people.

One official speaks, another answers, and soon a chain of reactions pulls more names into the spotlight. Statements are questioned, motives are doubted, and the truth becomes harder to trace. In the middle of it all, ordinary citizens are left to wonder: How did governance begin to resemble a stage performance where scripts change overnight? The confusion grows not because people refuse to understand, but because the narrative itself keeps shifting before the public can even grasp one scene.

The deeper problem is not only the noise but also the fatigue that comes with it. While leaders exchange allegations and clarifications, Filipinos continue to face rising prices, long commutes, and daily uncertainties. For many, it feels unfair that the national conversation revolves around political drama instead of tangible progress. The question echoes quietly but persistently: Why does accountability move slowly, while controversy moves at lightning speed?

This is not a call to anger, but a call to awareness. A government is strongest when people stay informed and involved, not merely entertained by spectacle. Young Filipinos, especially, must understand how easily distraction can weaken a societyโ€™s focus. When the public becomes used to chaos, it becomes harder to notice what truly matters and easier for real issues to slip through unnoticed.

Perhaps the most important reminder is this: behind every headline are families, workers, students, and communities hoping for stability. Governance is not a circus unless the audience treats it like one. By choosing to stay critical, compassionate, and informed, citizens reclaim their role not as spectators but as participants in building a nation that values truth, responsibility, and justice.

In the end, the goal is not to point fingers. It is to hope, firmly and quietly, that the noise will settle, the truth will surface, and leadership at every level will remember that every decision affects lives far beyond the walls of power. And until that day comes, the Filipino people continue to watch, to learn, and to hope for a future where clarity speaks louder than chaos.

Dominican College San Juan held a recollection for Grades 9 and 11 students on November 14, 2025, at the college library, focusing on the value of responsibility, discipline, and compassion.

Fr. Christopher Salonga, the eventโ€™s invited speaker, delivered an engaging and insightful message that encouraged students to reflect on their actions and choices. He introduced the concept of SSS โ€” โ€œStrength, System, and Small Actionโ€ highlighting how even simple, consistent efforts can lead to meaningful personal growth. His message resonated strongly with the participants.

This yearโ€™s recollection aimed to give students the space to pause, look inward, and recognize areas where they can improve. The activity also allowed them to strengthen their Dominican identity as they bonded and momentarily stepped away from academic pressures to focus on their personal experiences and reflections.

Dominican College of San Juan students from Grades 4 to 12 gathered to observe World Mental Health Day through a Mental Health Awareness Seminar held on October 10, 2025. The honorable speaker, Dr. Anne Christine D. Guevarra, M.D., delivered an enlightening and heartfelt talk that focused on understanding emotions, managing stress, and developing healthy coping habits, especially among todayโ€™s youth.

Dr. Guevarra emphasized that acknowledging oneโ€™s struggles is an important step toward healing, reminding students that seeking help is not a sign of weakness but an act of courage. She also noted that growing up comes with challenges, but no one has to face them alone. Through faith, family, and friendship, individuals can find peace and strength during difficult times.

Students actively participated in the session, asking thoughtful questions and showing genuine interest in learning how to care for their mental well-being. The seminar served as a meaningful reminder that healing begins with kindness, empathy, and faith rather than silence and fear.

By choosing compassion, listening with understanding, and supporting one another through prayer, the Dominican community continues to uphold the spirit of faith and care that defines its values.

Dominican College of San Juan students from Grades 7 to 12 attended an HIV Awareness Talk on October 10, 2025, where health professionals and advocates emphasized the importance of education, awareness, and compassion in addressing the rising number of HIV cases in the Philippines.

From January to March this year, newly reported HIV cases have continued to increase, prompting experts to look deeper into the factors behind this growing trend. Based on national surveys, despite the inclusion of health education in schoolsโ€”particularly in MAPEHโ€”many Filipinos still lack accurate knowledge about HIV transmission, prevention, and treatment.

Dr. Melchor S. Gonzales, Assistant City Health Officer of San Juan City, stressed that HIV is not a death sentence. Studies show that with proper medication and consistent care, people living with HIV can live long, normal, and fulfilling lives. โ€œHIV is not the reason you will die young,โ€ Dr. Gonzales said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Anthony Louie V. David, an HIV advocate, called for an end to the stigma and misinformation surrounding the condition.

โ€œAng HIV ay hindi sakit ng bakla!โ€ he declared, emphasizing that HIV can affect anyone, regardless of gender, background, or social status.

This misconception, he added, continues to fuel discrimination and silence those who need help the most.

Speakers further explained that HIV is transmitted through bodily fluids such as blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk, and not through air, casual contact, or sharing food. The main causes of transmission remain unprotected s*x, sharing infected needles, and mother-to-child transmission.

To prevent HIV, they encouraged abstinence, mutual faithfulness, avoiding drugs and alcohol, and continuous education. They also reminded the public that free testing, counseling, and treatment are available in local social hygiene clinics.

Both Dr. Gonzales and Mr. David concluded by reminding everyone that every life matters, and that early testing, awareness, and empathy remain the most powerful tools in the fight against HIV.

The Dominican College San Juan community joined the Holy Mass on October 6, 2025, at the Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City for the annual celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of La Naval de Manila.

The Mass was celebrated in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, paying tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the revered title of Our Lady of La Naval, a devotion deeply rooted in faith, gratitude, and Filipino heritage.

The celebration served as a moment of reflection and unity, reminding the faithful of the enduring power of prayer and the strength of collective devotion. Through the recitation of the Holy Rosary, participants were called to deepen their faith, strengthen community bonds, and draw closer to God.

For Dominican College San Juan, the annual participation affirms that the story of La Naval is not merely a cherished tradition of the past but a living legacy, one that continues to inspire hope, nurture faith, and unite generations through prayer.

As echoed in the Thanksgiving Prayer to La Naval: โ€œQueen of the Holy Rosary, Our Lady of La Navalโ€ฆ give birth to peace in our world.โ€

Dominican College San Juan capped off Guidance Week with a Career Orientation for Grades 9 to 12, held at the Veritas Hall on September 19 and led by alumnae from Batch 2001. The program featured guest speakers Ms. Merrynol โ€œAppleโ€ Iluzada, MSIT, Dr. Kristine S. Mesia, and Dr. Joanna Dorado, DVM, who shared their journeys and inspiring insights with the students.

Ms. Iluzada reminded the young students to rely on their faith during uncertain times, saying, โ€œWhen life gets confusing, pray and trust God.โ€ She encouraged students not to let the past hinder them from pursuing their dreams.

Dr. Mesia, reflecting on her experiences in dentistry, emphasized the importance of perseverance and hard work. She told the students that success is attainable with consistent effort, echoing the reminder: โ€œDaig ng masipag ang matalino.โ€

Meanwhile, Dr. Dorado addressed the reality of burnout. She stressed the need for balance between work and personal life when building a career. Taking time to rest, she said, allows one to continue with renewed strength and clearer purpose.

Filled with enthusiasm, students eagerly sought advice from the speakers. The alumnae encouraged them to stay persistent in chasing their goals despite setbacks, reminding them that rejection can serve as a redirection toward greater opportunities. The alumnae showed that with determination and faith, setbacks can lead to growth and confidence in pursuing oneโ€™s goals.

The Supreme Student Council (SSC) leaders of Dominican College San Juan joined fellow student leaders in an Advocacy Seminar on Child Protection Laws on September 11, 2025, at Pinaglabanan Elementary School, San Juan City.

The seminar highlighted the importance of raising awareness on laws that protect children from abuse, bullying, harassment, and violence. Discussions covered preventive measures, the root causes of crimes, and the proper channels for reporting cases of abuse.

Student leaders from both private and public schools in San Juan participated in the activity. Beyond increasing knowledge on child protection, the seminar also aimed to strengthen camaraderie among young leaders in the city.

Interactive games and group sharing sessions allowed participants to exchange insights, experiences, and perspectives. This activity encouraged them to become more open to the views of others while recognizing the collective role of student leaders in promoting child protection.

KC Morado, Vice President of the SSC of Dominican College San Juan, expressed her realization after the event.

The seminar concluded with a strong message for the youth: do not remain silent when facing violence, harassment, or abuse. Instead, speak up, report it, and use your voice to inspire awareness both inside and outside the school.
