PAPA J — A BLACKRIDER LEGEND OF THE ’70s

There are BlackRiders you meet, BlackRiders you ride with, and then there are BlackRider legends whose names have already become part of the road itself.
Papa J is one of those men.
The man everyone knows. The undefeated drinker, the solid bar customer along Tandang Sora Avenue, and the old-school joker whose humor came from a generation that never bothered asking whether Gen Z would be offended.
He was simply Papa J.
And if you ever had the privilege of stepping inside his home, you would understand that his house is almost like a museum of the life he has lived.
The Nazzi collections, skulls, old-time photographs, biker memorabilia, and countless pieces of history scattered around his home tell stories even before Papa J opens his mouth. Every object seems to carry a memory. Every photograph represents a chapter. Every collection reflects a time when the streets, the bikes, and the brotherhood were different.
His home doesn't just preserve things.
It preserves memories.
Among the brothers who are considered legends, Papa J has a character that makes him different. He is the kind of man who can sit down with you regardless of what generation you belong to. Young or old, veteran or newcomer, he could find a way to share a laugh, tell a story, throw a joke, or simply sit there and make you feel like you've known him forever.
That's the kind of brother he is.
And Papa J doesn't wait for you to greet him.
He'll be the first one to say:
“Tagal.”
It's been so long.
But coming from Papa J, “Tagal” means much more than the words themselves.
It's his way of saying:
“I missed you, my brother.”
Then, of course, there is that legendary sign outside his house:
NO EMPI, NO ENTRY
A simple joke. A classic Papa J invitation.
Not really a rule, but his comedic way of saying:
“Bring a drink. Come inside. Sit down. Let's spend some time together as brothers.”
That was Papa J's kind of hospitality.
Born from a different time, he carried the toughness of an era when being a biker meant something different. A hardcore rider who took on the roads of Cagayan and Bicol without a single helmet, riding with the confidence of a man who believed that the road was meant to be conquered.
A worthy bearer of Hector, carrying the spirit of the old-school Harley rider.
Back in the 1970s, Papa J was among those who ran the streets of Aurora Boulevard, riding hard on their Harley cruisers when the city was different, when the sound of a big motorcycle was enough to turn heads, and when a biker's reputation was built on the roads rather than on stories told about them.
He comes from a generation that cannot be recreated.
But fortunately, it can be remembered.
Through the motorcycles.
Through the photographs.
Through the skulls and Nazzi collections.
Through the old stories.
Through the jokes that probably wouldn't survive a Gen Z comment section.
And most importantly, through the brothers who still remember sitting beside him.
That is what makes Papa J a legend.
Not simply the miles he rode. Not simply the Harley he rode. Not simply the drinks he could put away.
It's the fact that Papa J could make generations sit at the same table.
The old brothers knew him.
The younger brothers learned from him.
And somewhere between the stories, the laughter, the drinks, and that familiar “Tagal,” everybody became brothers again.
Papa J, I miss you so much.
May you recover well there in the province. Take your time, regain your strength, and come back when you're ready.
The road is still here.
The brothers are still here.
And somewhere in Tandang Sora, that “NO EMPI, NO ENTRY” sign still says everything Papa J has always meant:
Bring a drink. Come inside. Sit with your brothers.
Because legends may grow old, but the memories they leave behind never do.
