𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐪𝐮𝐞 — 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙦𝙪𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩

This Literature Month, the 𝗟anguage 𝗘nthusiasts 𝗦ociety features selected literary works from Marinduque that highlight the richness of local voices and creative expression.

𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘲𝘶𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 by 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 brings together creative nonfiction, poetry, short stories, and vignettes rooted in memory, culture, and history. It reflects both personal and collective experiences shaped by the island’s past and present.

The work explores themes of loss, survival, and love, capturing the enduring spirit of the community. It suggests how stories—drawn from memory and everyday life—continue to resonate across generations.

Pagaling is a Marinduque-based author, poet, and food writer whose works have appeared in publications such as Rappler and the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞

The 3rd year Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies (BA ELS) students conducted their Research Proposal Defense as part of their academic requirements. The proposals featured various issues related to language, reflecting the students’ initial explorations in the field.

The activity provided an opportunity for students to present their research ideas and receive valuable and constructive feedback from the panel toward the refinement of their studies.

𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞

The 2nd year Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies (BA ELS) students successfully conducted their collaborative case study defense/output for the courses 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙜𝙚, 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙩𝙮 and 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚. The activity highlighted the integration of interdisciplinary perspectives as students examined various issues and explored language use across different social and cultural contexts.

Through the presentations, students demonstrated their ability to analyze discourse, express different perspectives, and engage in an insightful discussion. The collaborative output further emphasized teamwork and connecting theory to real-world application.

The activity was conducted under the guidance of their course advisers, Ms. Jessica Semilla and Ms. Jean Grace Solina-Nazareno. Panelled by Ms. Jholey Rose Leaño-Lancion and Sir John Lester Historillo, who gave a valuable and constructive feedback for the finalization of the paper.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗕𝗔 𝗘𝗟𝗦) 𝗘𝘅𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟏𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 — The 4th year BA ELS students participated in the Exit Conference and Interview as part of the culmination of their academic journey. The event served as a platform to reflect on their internship experiences, assess their competencies, and articulate their professional growth.

Following the conference, certificates were formally awarded to all interns in recognition of their dedication, commitment, and successful completion of their respective training programs. The awarding ceremony highlighted the collective efforts and achievements of the interns, marking a significant milestone in their academic and professional development.

The interview segment further provided an avenue for students to share insights, challenges, and learnings gained throughout their internship, reinforcing the program’s goal of producing competent and reflective graduates.

𝘛𝘢𝘵𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘱𝘶’𝘵 𝘐𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢 𝘉𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘺 𝘚𝘢’𝘺𝘰 by 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗹 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗲 “𝗜𝘁𝗲𝗹” 𝗥. 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 explores meaning through objects such as colors, clothing, and the small details of life. Through simple yet expressive language, these become reflections of emotion, identity, and love.

The piece presents both personal and shared experiences by touching on themes of acceptance, appreciation, and individuality. It suggests that meaning and identity are often found in the ordinary.
