PROUD TO BE PINOY 🇵🇭
“What does it mean to be a Filipino?”

That was the question our children were asked as they watched a video about what makes us Filipino. ❤️

At Meritxell, we have a program called “Proud to be Pinoy.” Through movies, videos, stories, talks, games, music, and activities, we want our children to discover and appreciate the things that make us uniquely Filipino.

And what better time to talk about Filipino pride than now?

Just a few days ago, Alex Eala made history, becoming the first Filipina to win a WTA Tour-level singles title. 🇵🇭🎾 Her victory brought Filipinos everywhere together in celebration. She made us cheer, cry, and proudly say, “Pinoy tayo!”

These are the stories we want our children to know.

Because for us, being Filipino is not just about having a Philippine passport.
It is knowing our bayanihan.�It is saying po and opo.�It is sharing food even when there isn’t much.�It is our resilience, our humor, our hospitality, and that special way Filipinos can make a home feel like home. ❤️🇵🇭

This is particularly important for our children at Meritxell. Some of them may one day find their forever families in another country through inter-country adoption under the Hague Convention, as processed by the National Authority for Child Care (NACC).

And when that day comes, we want them to be adapt to their new life, but to never forget where their story began. This is key to their finding their identities as adults.

Because our children deserve to know their roots.
They deserve to know their culture.
They deserve to know their story.
And most of all, they deserve to be proud of who they are. ❤️🇵🇭

So every Thursday, we’re rebuilding our story. Today, we look back to a post from March 28,2021:

Primary and Pre-School Virtual Recognition Day. Two girls with Academic excellence awards- “With honors” and “With High Honors” as well as a Deportment Award! 💯👏👏👏

All our primary and pre-school girls are doing well at school, and continue to acquire new skills and knowledge through online learning 💕👏

Thank you to Infant Jesus Academy for the educational scholarships for all our children since 2008, and to our volunteer tutors, teachers, caregivers, and to each and every member of our extended Meritxell family of angels who continue to support our home through generous donations.

Family Day at Infant Jesus Academy ❤️

Our Nursery and Kinder girls had a wonderful time celebrating Family Day at Infant Jesus Academy! Filled with fun games and laughter, the event reminded everyone that family is built not only by blood, but also by love, care, and commitment.

They were accompanied by our dedicated Houseparents, who are the most important adults in the daily lives of our children at Meritxell. Through their constant love and nurturing care, they provide the safe and stable family environment that every child deserves.

Thank you, Infant Jesus Academy, for celebrating families in all their wonderful forms and for making our girls feel welcomed and loved.

Today, we look back to a post from August 5, 2024:

One’s childhood is short and ends all too soon. Because of this, we constantly strive for efficiency and treat each child’s case as “URGENT”. The phrase, “needs to be done yesterday” is often heard in our discussions on the case management of our children.

Meritxell is honored to be nominated by the Regional Alternative Child Care Office, NCR for “Most number of Children presented for Matching” (for adoption), 2023-2024 1st Quarter and a “Pusong Maagap” nomination for our Social Worker, Jenny Bitangcor!

Proud for our Tita Jenny to be recognized together with social workers from 2 other renowned child caring agencies- White Cross & Concordia!

A Reward for Hard Work!

It was the last day of the girls’ long tests, and after days of reviewing, studying, and doing their very best, they certainly deserved a little celebration!

As a special treat, Tita Leah surprised everyone with ice cream 🍦😊. There were lots of smiles, laughter, and happy faces as the girls enjoyed their well-earned reward together.

At Meritxell, we believe that hard work should be recognized and celebrated. Small moments like these remind our children that best effort and doing their best are always worth it.

Congratulations, girls, on finishing your long tests! We are so proud of the effort you put into your studies. 👏👏👏 💕
