For this coming Ramadan, the ACES–JPICE humbly launches its first-ever Iftar Drive, with the intention of sharing blessings and nourishing our brothers and sisters at the time of iftar.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Charity does not decrease wealth.” (Muslim)

And he ﷺ also said:
“Whoever gives food for a fasting person to break his fast will have a reward like his, without reducing the reward of the fasting person.” (Tirmidhi)

Through this Iftar Drive, you have the opportunity to gain the reward of fasting by helping provide food for others, while your wealth is only increased in barakah.

Project AcCEss+ is now officially accepting donations. This initiative seeks to support our fellow engineering students by providing essential tools and materials that can ease a little of their academic burden and help them thrive in their studies.

Through this program, students and alumni will have the opportunity to contribute or access essential tools, materials, and resources that support academic growth and professional development.

As part of our pre-launch preparations, we are conducting a brief survey to assess the needs of our community and identify available resources for sharing. This step will help ensure that Project AcCEss+ is inclusive, accountable, and beneficial to all participants. We encourage and invite the entire MSU-Marawi Civil Engineering community—students across all year levels, alumni, and sponsors—to participate in the survey and help us shape a program that truly supports collaboration and intergenerational mentorship.

The Junior Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (JPICE) Student Chapters of Mindanao State University – Main Campus and Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology conducted a joint donation drive to assist families affected by Typhoon Basyang, which caused flooding in several parts of Iligan City, on February 15.

The initiative was led by JPICE MSU-Main President Juniel Mark Salamanca and JPICE MSU-IIT President Robmyleh Dane Hambre, who coordinated inter-campus efforts to collect, sort, and distribute relief goods. Donations from students, faculty, and donors were repacked into relief bundles containing rice, canned goods, bottled water, and hygiene essentials before being delivered to selected barangays.

One of the primary areas visited was Barangay Upper Hinaplanon, where floodwaters during the height of Typhoon Basyang damaged and, in some cases, destroyed homes. Volunteers met families who suffered significant property loss, with some houses reportedly carried away by strong currents. Relief packs were distributed door to door to ensure that assistance reached residents directly and addressed their immediate needs.

The group also extended assistance to Barangay Mahayahay, where flooding likewise affected households, including civil engineering students from both campuses. The visit carried a dual purpose: to deliver aid and to express solidarity with fellow students whose families were directly impacted by the disaster.

For the volunteers, the experience underscored lessons that go beyond textbooks. As future civil engineers, they are trained to study structures, transportation systems, water resources, and flood control measures. Witnessing firsthand the effects of heavy rainfall and inadequate drainage systems reinforced the importance of resilient infrastructure, sound planning, and sustainable design.

While the donation drive addressed immediate needs, it also served as a reminder of the broader role civil engineers play in society. Disasters such as flooding highlight the need for effective engineering solutions that protect lives and property. Through this initiative, the students demonstrated that their responsibility extends beyond technical competence to community engagement and public service.

The joint effort of the MSU-Main and MSU-IIT JPICE chapters reflects a shared commitment to support affected communities while embracing the social responsibility that comes with the engineering profession.

In light of the recent devastation brought by Typhoon Basyang in Iligan City, the 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 (𝗝𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗘) 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 of 𝗠𝗦𝗨–𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗶 and 𝗠𝗦𝗨-𝗜𝗜𝗧 formally launch a collaborative Donation Drive to extend immediate and meaningful assistance to affected families and communities.

This joint initiative reflects our shared commitment to service, solidarity, and humanitarian response. As future civil engineers, we recognize not only the importance of building resilient structures, but also of strengthening communities in times of crisis. Through this effort, we aim to mobilize resources that will help address the urgent needs of displaced and vulnerable individuals.

We are humbly accepting the following in-kind donations, which may be dropped off at the 𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗖𝗢𝗘 𝗢𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 for MSU-Marawi constituents:

Earlier this morning, a fire occurred between 3rd–4th Street, which unfortunately affected two of our Civil Engineering students—𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗮, a 3rd-year student, and 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗘𝘂𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗼, a 1st-year student. According to the victims, almost all of their belongings were lost in the incident.

In response, the ACES-JPICE has launched a Donation Drive to extend assistance and support to our affected fellow students. We are humbly accepting spare clothes, toiletries, food items, daily necessities, and monetary donations. Additionally, the affected students are also in need of school materials, particularly a scientific calculator. We are reaching out especially to CE alumni who may have spare or old units that can be donated.

Earlier today, some ACES officers together with Engr. Warda Panondi (academic adviser of Ms. Beniga) and CE Dept. Chairperson Engr. Merhanna Pangandaman, personally visited the affected students to extend initial assistance. The funds collected earlier were used to purchase essential goods such as food, toiletries, and daily necessities.

In light of the recent seismic activities, it is essential to heighten our awareness of the geological realities that shape our surroundings. The first rule of safety in the face of earthquakes is knowing—knowing where we stand, how close we are to active faults, and how to respond when the ground begins to move.

Preparedness begins with awareness. By recognizing the presence and behavior of nearby fault lines, we empower ourselves to make informed choices—whether in the design of resilient structures or in the practice of earthquake safety protocols.

To further strengthen our understanding, a Seismic Hazard Atlas is available at the College Library and can also be accessed through the link below. This resource provides vital information on seismic maps and fault systems, including the proximity of the College of Engineering to the Lanao Fault System.
