Advocates from Flowers for Lolas, including KAISA KA and Malaya Lolas Volunteer Network sent a joint letter on May 18, 2026 addressed to The President of the Philippines, The Presidential Human Rights Committee (PHRCS) and The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) to extend healthcare support to the remaining Malaya Lolas and to enact true reparations, as the Malaya Lolas are "rights-holders" entitled to transformative justice and not just mere "charity beneficiaries".

May 21, we received news that Atty. Gerald Gascon Bitonio, Deputy Executive Director / Director IV of the Presidential Human Rights Committee Secretariat had sent letters to DOH and DSWD for them to extend immediate assistance to Lola Emilia and for strengthened implementation of Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2025-01 (S. 2025) For the Malaya Lolas.

[ ๐Ÿฅ UPDATE ON MALAYA LOLA EMILIA MAY 9, 2026 ]
THANK YOU for sharing our last post and PHP 15,363.04 worth of donations to the granddaughter of Lola Emiliaโ€™s (Sheila Salvadorโ€™s) Gcash account to help cover for the inpatient expenses โค๏ธ

May 8 in the afternoon, Lola Emilia was discharged from the hospital. Please see picture in the comments section of this post on Malaya Lolas Volunteer Network page for the final hospital bill. Ms. Sheila Salvadorโ€™s Gcash will remain open to help cover for Lola Emiliaโ€™s outpatient care, which includes buying an oxygen concentrator worth around PHP 22,000๐Ÿ’ธ while she continues to be looked after at home.

Pls donโ€™t forget โ•๐Ÿงพ to send screenshot proof of transaction to the inbox of Malaya Lolas Volunteer Network as we continue to keep count of your donations.

Malaya Lolas Volunteer Network reiterates that soliciting donations from private entities is far from the ideal, but it is the compromise we take since our contacts to DOH were unresponsive during the past week's medical emergencyโ€ผ๏ธ It has been made clear since 2023 by the UN CEDAW that the Malaya Lolas and all other Filipina survivors of wartime sexual slavery are entitled to not only social support from the Philippine government but actually a whole nationwide reparations program that ought to be spearheaded by Philippine Commission on Women.

Additional info posted in the comments section.

[ ๐Ÿฅ HELP NEEDED FOR LOLA EMILIA]
Malaya Lola Emilia, sister of the late Malaya Lola President Isabelita Vinuya, was rushed to the hospital night of May 4, 2026 due to cough and colds, lowered oxygen and sudden forgetfulness. Test results as of May 6 show her blood sugar went down and there is infection in her blood.

With permission from the family, we have posted these info and QR code to the Gcash of Lola Emiliaโ€™s granddaughter Ms. Sheila Salvador. Any amount given through this channel would be very much appreciated ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ and would help ease the high cost of hospitalization, which has reached over 60,000 pesos as of May 7 and is increasing as Lola Emilia continues to get the medical attention she needs. Donations from the international community are also welcome. ๐ŸŒ

โ•๐Ÿงพ Please send screenshot proof of transaction to the inbox ๐Ÿ“ฅ of Malaya Lolas Volunteer Network as we monitor donations and forward them to Ms Sheila.

It is the obligation of the Philippine government under the UN Committee on Elimination on All Forms of Discrimination Against Women โ™€๏ธ to implement a nationwide reparations program for the Malaya Lolas and all other Filipina survivors of wartime sexual slavery (commonly known as comfort women) that includes regular and adequate healthcare, which are one of the most pressing and primary needs of the Lolas due to their advanced age. The cost of healthcare support should come from the government, and not to largely depend on private donations. The latter is the compromise we take due to the urgent nature of Lola Emiliaโ€™s situation.
