Pope Francis has returned to the Lord on this Easter Monday.

With love and faith, we pray for his peaceful rest:
"Eternal rest grant unto Pope Francis, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen."

He passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88, in his home at Casa Santa Marta in the Vatican.

𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗢𝗡 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗬 𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗗𝗔𝗬

Though experiencing deep pain and sorrow 💔, Holy Saturday was 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿 for Mary; it was one of 𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, steeped in the contemplation of the plan for Redemption. 🌑✝️

The apostles and holy women would have naturally gathered around the Mother of their beloved Master❤️‍🔥, 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 from her in their state of confusion and grief 🥹.

Mary pondered her Son’s final words — “𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣, 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙤𝙣” (John 19:26) — and in those hours would have started to live out her vocation as 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵 🕊️.

Every single priest wakes up in the morning and sees an impossible task in front of him…

He is to be “another Christ” (alter Christus)…

and yet he still lives his life as a sacrifice…of which finds its greatest witness in the Mass…wherein he takes Christ’s sacrifice onto himself and offers and gives the Eucharist to the people that God has called him to serve.

On this Holy Thursday…Christ gave the world the Holy Eucharist and the sacred priesthood…

Pray for your priests🙏 especially as they lead you into Christ’s suffering, death and Resurrection this weekend.

PASCHAL TRIDUUM
The Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ
The Easter Triduum begins with the Vigil of Holy Thursday. It marks the end of the forty days of Lent and the beginning of the three-day celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ - Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil/Easter Sunday. The Fathers of the Second Vatican Council reminded us of the extraordinary significance of the Triduum : "Christ redeemed us all and gave perfect glory to God principally through his paschal mystery: dying he destroyed our death and rising he restored our life. Therefore the Easter Triduum of the passion and resurrection of Christ is the culmination of the entire liturgical year." (General Norms for the Liturgical Year and the Calendar, # 18)

Maundy Thursday
The Church- now without the Eucharist is truly empty. So the tabernacle light which is always lit and signifying Christ's presence- is extinguished, and the tabernacle door is left open, exposing the vacant space inside. The altar is stripped bare of its linens and candles, holy water is removed from the church's fonts and the sacraments are not celebrated until the Easter vigil. Like the first Christians bereft of Jesus and mourning the two days after the crucifixion, the church stands unadorned until the Easter vigil Mass on Saturday night. With the resurrection of Jesus, the church's joy is restored.
"I give you a new COMMANDMENT: Love one another as I have loved you." (John 13:34)

𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗔 𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗔 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗦 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗗𝗨𝗟𝗘

"In Holy Week, the Church celebrates the mysteries of salvation accomplished by Christ in the last days of the earthly life, beginning with his messianic entry into Jerusalem"(141).

The people are notably involved in the rites of Holy Week. Many of them still bear the traces of their origins in popular piety. It has come about, however, that in the course of the centauries, a form of celebrative parallelism has arisen in the Rites of Holy Week, resulting in two cycles each with its own specific character: one is strictly liturgical, the other is marked by particular pious exercise, especially processions.

This divergence should be oriented towards a correct harmonisation of the liturgical celebrations and pious exercises. Indeed, the attention and interest in manifestations of popular piety, traditionally observed among the people, should lead to a correct appreciation of the liturgical actions, which are supported by popular piety.
