💙 Micronutrient Monday: Folic Acid (Vitamin B9)
Folic acid, the synthetic form of vitamin B9, is an essential nutrient that supports healthy cell growth and development for everyone. Getting enough folic acid before and during early pregnancy can help prevent serious birth defects of the brain and spine, known as neural tube defects.
Because many pregnancies are unplanned and neural tube closure occurs very early in pregnancy—often before someone knows they are pregnant—ensuring women of reproductive age have access to folic acid is critical.
Adding folic acid to staple foods is a safe, effective, and cost-effective way to help people consume this important nutrient through foods they already eat.
Learn more about how folic acid improves health around the world.

🎉 Why does International Youth Day matter?
International Youth Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a global opportunity to celebrate the contributions of young people, amplify their voices and recognise their role in building more inclusive communities.
At IF, we believe young people living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus are advocates, leaders and changemakers. Their experiences and perspectives help shape a more inclusive future for everyone.

Join us as we celebrate International Youth Day through our global webinar.
