The NEXT PLATE 2026 International Culinary Sustainability Convention took place on July 21, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the FLT Conference Theatre, Lyceum of the Philippines University – Laguna.

Interim Executive Director Castle Reynera and Director of Knowledge and Impact Management Isaiah Emmanuel Suguitan, RND, represented the organization and delivered a presentation about its mission and activities.

This inspiring event centered on the theme 'Empowering Young Chefs: Integrating Sustainability, Culture and Heritage to Transform Food Systems.' 🍽️🌱

Opening Ceremony & Welcome Remarks with special messages from organizers and international partners, including a warm welcome from Shona Chalmers, Chair of the Worldchefs Feed the Planet Committee.

Thought-provoking Keynote Presentations on local food heritage, cultural identity, and sustainable kitchen practices by Ige Ramos, John Sherwin Felix, Laorence Castillo, and Safa Rodas.

An engaging Panel Forum & Caravan featuring interactive discussions on waste reduction and responsible sourcing, with distinguished guests like J.A. Ventura, Cherrie Uy Tan, Carl Justine Abitona, and Castle Reynera.

🌱🍽️ We were honored to join NEXT PLATE 2026: International Culinary Sustainability Convention at the FLT Conference Theatre, LPU Laguna.

The convention brought together renowned chefs, industry leaders, educators, and youth advocates to explore how sustainability, culture, and heritage can help shape the future of food systems. It was an inspiring opportunity to learn from experts, exchange ideas, and connect with individuals who are passionate about building a more sustainable and resilient culinary industry.

🎉 It's National Nutrition Month! 🎉
We are honored to have been invited on July 2nd by the Ateneo Institute of Philippine Culture (IPC) to participate in the event: "Baka Naman Pwede: Healthy Food for All? Nutrition Justice and the Right to Eat Well." 🍎🥦

Every Filipino deserves the opportunity to eat well.

Yet for many families, nutritious food remains out of reach. Not because they don't value healthy eating, but because the systems around them make it difficult.

If healthy food costs more than many families can afford, the issue is not simply about willpower — it is about access, equity, and justice.

Let's work towards food systems that make the healthy choice the easy and accessible choice for every Filipino.

🌱🌾 Farmers' Rights to Seed Saving and Access to Diverse Crop Varieties 🌾🌱
Filipino farmers have a proud tradition of saving seeds, which strengthens harvest resilience and protects our rich indigenous varieties. 🌿✨ Seed saving is vital for preserving our traditional farming practices and helping crops adapt to changing conditions.

When access to diverse crop varieties is lost, farmers become dependent on costly commercial seeds and uniform farming systems. Protecting seed rights means safeguarding biodiversity, ensuring food security, and maintaining the freedom to grow crops suited to our local land. 🌍❤️

Our indigenous and smallholder communities continue to nurture rice, corn, vegetables, legumes, and root crops through shared seed practices. 🥕🌽🍚

To the youth, you can help by documenting heirloom seeds, supporting seed libraries, and learning from elder farmers before this living knowledge disappears! 🙌📚

🌊 National Fisherfolk Day 🚢
Our fisherfolk are the backbone of daily Filipino meals. Yet, many face declining catches, rising fuel costs, illegal fishing, and the impacts of climate change. 🌱💔

The Philippines loses around 45,000 MT of fish annually due to climate change, outdated laws, poor equipment, illegal and unreported fishing. This translates to Php62 billion in economic losses each year. Major species like seaweed, milkfish, and galunggang are seeing significant declines.

We must strengthen coastal laws, promote sustainable practices, and protect our seas. 🌍⚓

To the youth: know where your food comes from. Stand with our coastal communities. Our seas need young voices, scientists, and defenders for a sustainable future. 🌱🧑‍🔬✊

Let’s support our fisherfolk ~ because their work sustains us all.

🚨 Hunger crisis in the Philippines 🚨
In the first quarter of 2026, 23.2% of Filipino families, about 4.5 million households, experienced involuntary hunger at least once in the past three months. 🍽️

Regional disparities are alarming, with Visayas hitting the highest rate at 28%. 📊
Additionally, 31% of households (around 8.1 million) consider their food to be poor. 🍚

It's time to raise awareness and push for solutions to end hunger ✊
