🌱🌾 Farmers' Rights to Seed Saving and Access to Diverse Crop Varieties 🌾🌱
Filipino farmers have a proud tradition of saving seeds, which strengthens harvest resilience and protects our rich indigenous varieties. 🌿✨ Seed saving is vital for preserving our traditional farming practices and helping crops adapt to changing conditions.

When access to diverse crop varieties is lost, farmers become dependent on costly commercial seeds and uniform farming systems. Protecting seed rights means safeguarding biodiversity, ensuring food security, and maintaining the freedom to grow crops suited to our local land. 🌍❀️

Our indigenous and smallholder communities continue to nurture rice, corn, vegetables, legumes, and root crops through shared seed practices. πŸ₯•πŸŒ½πŸš

To the youth, you can help by documenting heirloom seeds, supporting seed libraries, and learning from elder farmers before this living knowledge disappears! πŸ™ŒπŸ“š

🌊 National Fisherfolk Day 🚒
Our fisherfolk are the backbone of daily Filipino meals. Yet, many face declining catches, rising fuel costs, illegal fishing, and the impacts of climate change. πŸŒ±πŸ’”

The Philippines loses around 45,000 MT of fish annually due to climate change, outdated laws, poor equipment, illegal and unreported fishing. This translates to Php62 billion in economic losses each year. Major species like seaweed, milkfish, and galunggang are seeing significant declines.

We must strengthen coastal laws, promote sustainable practices, and protect our seas. πŸŒβš“

To the youth: know where your food comes from. Stand with our coastal communities. Our seas need young voices, scientists, and defenders for a sustainable future. πŸŒ±πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬βœŠ

Let’s support our fisherfolk ~ because their work sustains us all.

🚨 Hunger crisis in the Philippines 🚨
In the first quarter of 2026, 23.2% of Filipino families, about 4.5 million households, experienced involuntary hunger at least once in the past three months. 🍽️

Regional disparities are alarming, with Visayas hitting the highest rate at 28%. πŸ“Š
Additionally, 31% of households (around 8.1 million) consider their food to be poor. 🍚

It's time to raise awareness and push for solutions to end hunger ✊

🌿🌏 Happy International Day for Biological Diversity! 🌱🐾

Did you know? The Philippines is one of the world's 18 megadiverse countries, hosting about 2/3 of Earth's biodiversity. That’s 70-80% of all known plant and animal species 🌺 Scientists estimate over 52,177 species call the Philippines home, with a high level of endemism thanks to our unique island geography.

But at least 700 species are threatened with extinction, and many more are at risk due to habitat loss, pollution, illegal wildlife trade, and destructive farming. 😒🌍 Only 37.47% of our key biodiversity areas are protected. We must do more! πŸ’ͺ🌳

As young Filipinos, we are the next guardians of our forests, farms, and seas! 🌱🌊 ✨ Learn about local species ✨ Plant native trees ✨ Speak out for habitats that can’t speak for themselves 🌴🌊

🌸🐝 Did you know? The Philippines is a global biodiversity hotspot for bees, home to 5 of the world's 9 native honeybee species and around 12 stingless bee varieties! πŸ‡΅πŸ‡βœ¨

We have the tiny, antimicrobial honey-producing kiwot (lukot) to the giant pukyutan hanging from tall trees, our native bees are true agricultural superheroes, boosting crop yields by up to 80%! 🌺πŸ₯πŸŒ΄

However, habitat loss and harmful farming practices threaten these vital pollinators. It's time to protect and conserve our native bees to ensure a sustainable future for our agriculture and ecosystems. πŸŒΏπŸ›‘οΈ

Save the bees. Save our future. πŸ’š

🌍✨ Happy Earth Day! ✨🌍
🍽️ Our food depends on a healthy planet πŸ₯˜
Today, we celebrate the beauty and wonder of our planet, from lush food forests and vibrant oceans to vast deserts and breathtaking mountains. It's a reminder of how precious and fragile our Earth is, and the importance of protecting it for future generations.

Every small action counts: reduce waste, recycle, plant a tree, conserve energy, and spread awareness. Together, we can make a difference and help preserve the incredible beauty of our home.

Let’s commit to being stewards of the Earth today and every day! πŸ’šπŸŒ±πŸŒŽ

🌱🍽️ Youth Pledge for Just Food Systems! 🍽️🌱
Young leaders from Southeast Asia gathered during the Asia and the Pacific Food Systems Transformation Forum to discuss how youth can play a pivotal role in building sustainable, climate-resilient, and nutrition-sensitive food systems across our region. πŸ™ŒπŸŒ

A major highlight was the unveiling of the ASEAN Youth Pledge for Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems, a collective commitment by youth representatives to prioritize food security, ecosystem protection, and equitable access to nutritious food. This pledge emphasizes that youth shouldn’t just be consulted but empowered as active partners in shaping our food future.

Youth are already making a difference at the community level through participatory research, nutrition dialogues, and local food initiatives that reflect local realities.

From community gardening, urban agriculture, to sustainable enterprises using indigenous vegetables and traditional rice varieties, youth-led initiatives are strengthening local food systems across the region. 🌿🌾

However, challenges like limited land access, financing, and decision-making power remain. What we need is institutionalized youth leadership, where young people are not only heard but are co-creating and implementing solutions. πŸ’ͺπŸ“

Let’s continue to advocate for stronger governance that integrates youth voices in policy and investment decisions. 🌍πŸ₯—
