The aerial bombings, raining gunfire, and armed troop encampments have become a reality for communities in Mindoro. While under the facade of โcounterinsurgency,โ these are nothing more but deliberate acts of terror against peasants, indigenous communities, and all those who resist exploitation and poverty. Despite repeated claims that insurgency in Mindoro has been โweakenedโ or โeliminated,โ the AFP continues to rain bullets and bombs on farming and Mangyan communities. If there are no armed forces to fight, who are these weapons really meant for?
Militarization in Mindoro is sustained by public funds and institutionalized through programs like NTF-ELCAC and the RCSP, organizations which enable red-tagging, harassment, and other human rights violations. Instead of addressing landlessness, poverty, and lack of basic services, the state answers the peopleโs demands with guns, bombs, and intimidation.
These attacks expose the true role of the military: protecting state and foreign interests while silencing the peopleโs struggle for land and livelihood. Funded by the peopleโs taxes and shielded by impunity, the AFP perpetuates human rights violations in the name of โpeaceโ and โsecurity.โ
Join us in an educational discussion as we unpack the roots of militarization in Mindoro, its connection to the broader fascist system in the country, and why genuine peace is impossible without justice.
