Don't settle for what sounds biblical.
Know what is biblical.

Do you know that these statements are not actually found in the Bible?

1.) “God helps those who help themselves” is completely unbiblical.

2.) “God will never give you more than you can handle” is based on a misused verse

A statement may sound biblical, but only Scripture is God's Word. Test every teaching against the Bible—not the other way around.

A bible verse or just a slogan?
What does the Bible really say about it?

Jesus did not call His followers to withdraw from people, but to remain faithful to God while living among them. The issue is not where Christians are present, but whose values and authority they ultimately follow.

MISQUOTED #2: Psalm 105:15
“Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.”

MISUNDERSTANDING: Church leaders cannot be questioned, corrected, or held accountable.

CONTEXT: Psalm 105 speaks of God's protection over His covenant people, while David's words to Saul referred to refusing personal vengeance against a leader God had appointed. The verse teaches honor and restraint—not immunity from accountability.

No leader is above God's Word.
No believer is exempt from honoring others.
The healthiest churches are built on both truth and humility.

A verse taken out of context can become a tool of control.

The question is not:
"What have we always heard?"

The question is:
"What does the Bible actually say?"

MISQUOTED #1: Matthew 7:1
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”

MISUNDERSTANDING: Don't judge at all.

CONTEXT: Jesus is not forbidding judgment - He is correcting how we judge. Don't judge hypocritically, harshly, and self-righteously.

Error #1: "You can't tell me I'm wrong because Jesus said not to judge."Error #2: "I'm just speaking truth."Jesus conf...

Error #1: "You can't tell me I'm wrong because Jesus said not to judge."
Error #2: "I'm just speaking truth."
Jesus confronts both errors.

The greatest danger is not merely refusing correction or giving correction. The greatest danger is assuming that because we're right about someone else's sin, we're automatically right in how we treat them.

"Judge not" is often used to avoid accountability.

But Jesus wasn't teaching us to ignore sin.
He was teaching us to confront it with humility.

Correction is not forbidden.
Hypocrisy is.

“A verse without context can easily become a message God never intended.”

This June, we’re starting a new series:
MISQUOTED — Bible verses Christians often misunderstand.

Some verses we hear often are quoted with good intentions, but not always with the right context. And when Scripture is misunderstood, it can unintentionally create confusion, guilt, or distorted views of God’s truth.

In this series, we’ll look deeper into commonly misused verses and discover what they actually mean in context — faithfully, carefully, and biblically.

Our goal is to grow together in wisdom and understanding as we learn to handle God’s Word rightly. 🤍
