HAPLOS Voices from Hemophilia Lay Forum Session 2 💙

Atty. Vincent Balad closed the session with a meaningful reminder: learning should lead to advocacy, support, and hope.

As a community, we continue to work step by step toward better access to care, including prophylaxis support through PhilHealth.

HEMOPHILIA AWARENESS LAY FORUM SERIES
SESSION 2: TREATMENT AND JOINT HEALTH

Highlights 💙

Our second session of the Virtual Hemophilia Lay Forum was truly fruitful and engaging.

We were honored to have Dr. Anne Marie DG Espaldon and Dr. Jan-Tyrone Cabrera as our speakers. They shared valuable insights on hemophilia treatment and joint health—topics that are very important for our patients and families.

We also thank Mrs. Herminia Palacio for the opening remarks, Mrs. Ma. Lourdes Formalejo for moderating the session, and Atty. Vincent Balad for the closing remarks.

The Q&A was very active, with many good questions and shared experiences from the participants.

It was a meaningful afternoon of learning, sharing, and support.

Our third day in KL was fun, lively, and full of little adventures!

After attending the Congress and the HAPLOS delegation’s meaningful meeting with WFH President Cesar Garrido and his team, we spent the evening exploring Central Market and Chinatown.

We enjoyed dinner together, looked for pasalubong, and of course, hindi mawawala ang tawaran — haggle here, haggle there — para sulit ang shopping! Ang galing ni Ma'am Tess! Cabiling Padlan😄

It was a night of food, finds, laughter, and bonding. Simple moments like these made our KL trip even more memorable. 💙

Please share to help spread hemophilia awareness and support Filipino families.

John Carlos A. Bautista shared his story during the POD session at WFH Congress, “Ripple Effect: Family Dynamics in Bleeding Disorders.”

He spoke about how difficult it can still be to access care in the Philippines, and how bleeding disorders affect not only the patient, but the entire family.

During the same session, Salve Dionisio also volunteered to share her experience as a mother who worked doubly hard as a nurse aide to support her son, Ryan, who has hemophilia.

Their stories remind us why every voice matters — and why HAPLOS continues to advocate for better access, better care, and stronger support for Filipino families affected by bleeding disorders.

It was an honor for the HAPLOS Community delegation to meet WFH President Cesar Alejandro Garrido, VP Finance Carlos Safadi Marquez, WFH Board Director Ekawat Suwantaroj, and Regional Manager for Southeast Asia & Western Pacific Ahmad Hazri Mohamed Aris.

This was a meaningful moment for our delegation. We were able to share the situation of the hemophilia community in the Philippines, listen to their insights, and feel their support for the work we continue to do.

Meetings like this remind us that we are not alone in this journey. We are thankful for the time and encouragement they gave our group, and we go forward even more inspired to keep advocating for better care for persons with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders in the Philippines.

Please like and share to help spread hemophilia awareness and support Filipino families.

HAPLOS is very proud of James Labrador Damasin for presenting at the WFH Congress 2026 in the PWD track with his talk, “I Would Walk 500 Miles – Accessing Care for the Ultra-Rural.” His presentation powerfully showed that access to care is not just about treatment, but also about the long and difficult journey toward diagnosis, support, and proper healthcare for families in far-flung communities.

Thank you, James, for representing the voice of underserved patients and families, and for making HAPLOS and the Philippines proud on the global stage. Your advocacy matters, and your work inspires us to keep pushing for better and more inclusive hemophilia care for all.

Please like and share to help spread hemophilia awareness and support Filipino families.
