The Philippine Relief and Development Services (PHILRADS) works hand in hand with local churches in holistic ministries for the poor and needy, to enable them to become all God intends them to be. The ministry responds to the emergency needs of disaster victims, provides assistance for their rehabilitation, carries out community development projects, and conducts disaster management seminars for local churches and communities.

📸 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗧𝗨𝗞𝗢𝗗 𝗢𝗚 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗨𝗠 - SHELTER ASSISTANCE
𝟳.𝟴-𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 - 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟯, 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟭

Roldan, Raymund, and Ryan are 3 fathers from Sarangani whose families continue to endure the aftermath of the earthquake that struck 3 months ago. Their homes and farmlands were severely damaged, which left their houses almost uninhabitable and forced them to consider relocating to another area.

But rebuilding a home is not as simple as it sounds. With limited income, they must prioritize their families’ immediate needs (e.g. food, transportation, family's daily allowance).

As a result, shelter recovery is often pushed aside.

Like them, many affected families continue to live in tents or seek temporary refuge in barangay halls and churches. Without a safe and stable home, their dignity, security, and protection from further risks remain compromised.

To support their journey towards recovery, PHILRADS, with the help of The Fellowship (FAIR), Global Intercultural Services (GLINTS), CharityPhilippines.org , and other donors and partners, initially selected these 3 fathers as beneficiaries of shelter assistance.

Throughout August, brand-new construction materials were delivered to help them rebuild their homes from the ground up, giving their families a safer place to live and a renewed sense of hope after the disaster.

This is only the beginning of their rebuilding journey.

📋 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗛𝗘𝗟𝗣𝗦 𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗡𝗢 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗜𝗦 𝗟𝗘𝗙𝗧 𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗗

Timely and inclusive assistance begins with accurate community records. However, many people cannot regularly update their information with the barangay because of work and other daily responsibilities. When records don't reflect their current circumstances, some families risk being overlooked during the distribution of assistance.

To help address this gap, the Start Network's START READY Cagayan Consortium, of which PHILRADS is a member, conducted beneficiary reorientation and information-updating activities in barangays Bunugan, Taguing, and Bagunot in Baggao, Cagayan, during the first week of September this 2026.

This activity forms part of the National Reserve Fund (NRF) Risk Pool 5 activities which strengthen preparations for Anticipatory Action (AA). By identifying at-risk families ahead of a forecasted disaster, communities can act early and deliver timely assistance before its impacts become more severe.

Because preparedness is not only about acting early. It is also about making sure no one is overlooked.

📸 11-year-old Francheska from Brgy. New Aklan of Glan, Sarangani was at home with her mother and was getting ready for school when the ground began to shake violently. Since that was her first time experiencing such shaking, fear took over almost immediately. But her mother pulled her close, told her to stay calm, and urged her and siblings sisters to pray.

It was also the first time she held on to God at such a young age.

Her family did not escape the damage. First, heavy cracks split their house, especially the kitchen. Second, when her father refused to go back to farm because he was still shaken, which somehow crippled their main source of income. Third, They kept their damaged sari-sari store open even though almost no one in the community could afford to buy anything at that time.

They stretched what little they had so the family could survive.

Meanwhile, Franchesca carried a trauma she could not put into words after watching her community in Brgy. New Aklan be devastated.

Weeks later, PHILRADS, through the funding support of Japan Platform （ジャパン・プラットフォーム）, AAR Japan［難民を助ける会］, The Mustard Seed Mission, Tearfund, humedica e.V., and other donors, reached Franchesca and other kids in Brgy. New Aklan of Glan, Sarangani through the Psychosocial Support Activity, where they were encouraged to draw what they saw and felt, which helped them process the experience and were listened by the volunteers intently.

She also received a Go Bag with a helmet, whistle, mini first-aid kit, and other child-appropriate safety items, plus a stuffed toy for comfort when she needs to let something out.

Now, whenever an aftershock comes, Francheska reaches for her Go Bag and keeps it with her. All of this is new to her. But she thanked PHILRADS, saying she felt at ease knowing that someone cared for her and her community.

⚠ Tropical Storm is currently monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, along with 2 other tropical cyclones outside the PAR and a separate low-pressure area east of the country.

Pilandok remains far from the Philippine landmass and is unlikely to make landfall. However, the Southwest Monsoon continues to bring rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds to several parts of Luzon and the Visayas.

Communities in areas prone to flooding and landslides are advised to remain alert and monitor official weather updates.
