How about a new and unique breakfast to start your week!!🍳🥖

This dish is Turkish eggs, also known as “cilbir.” It has a base of a garlic lemon yogurt, topped with poached eggs, a chili butter, and usually fresh herbs. It is also served with bread. It’s surprisingly easy to make, super good for you, and DELICIOUS!! Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients:

Yogurt base:
- plain greek yogurt (1/2-1 cup, up to you)
- tsp lemon juice
- 1 grated garlic clove
- pinch salt

- 2 eggs
- your favorite bread toasted

Chili butter sauce
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- some chili flakes

To top:
- dill
- feta (optional- I added myself)

Process:
- mix all yogurt ingredients into a bowl
- boil water with some salt to poach eggs, and once boiling, add one egg at a time and leave in water for about 2 min to 2:30, and remove with a slotted spoon and place onto top of yogurt. Repeat for second egg.
- Now, toast your bread, and while it’s toasting, make sauce
- On medium in a small pan, combine all sauce ingredients and cook for about a minute until everything is combined and melted
- Assemble: drizzle sauce on top of yogurt and eggs, and top with dill and feta. Slice bread in half and serve with it to dip.

Give it a try and let us know what you think‼️‼️‼️

The Shop by EBNS Review
By Everett Smith ‘29

When paying up to $8 for a matcha latte, quality matters. As tight budget college kids, most can’t spend big bucks on mediocrity. So, to help you spend your fun money wisely, I’m here with my matcha reviews.
For our first stop, I went to the popular The Shop by EBNS a.k.a. Every B*tch Needs A Scrunchie. Started by Kenzie Beam during her senior year of high school as a homemade scrunchie brand, it eventually evolved into the physical store/café we know today!
I’ve visited a bit, both to study and introduce to friends. With its very feminine atmosphere, all pink and floral, it sparks immediate joy. It isn’t some soulless corporate creation, it’s a light and happy environment.
EBNS has a wide range of drinks, all leaning towards sweet flavors like birthday cake and caramel. They’re not like other cafés, with no drip coffee or espresso. They still have lattes (using cold brew) but it could upset coffee purists. It’s more for a fun drink rather than an everyday place like Moka or Valentia. So, it didn’t surprise me that when I got my raw bones matcha (iced with almond milk, no sweetener or syrup) it wasn’t up to their average drink standards.
It isn’t bad in the slightest: Good quality milk, smooth drink, even once the ice melts and waters it down. But, the matcha itself isn’t particularly high quality. It had that grassyness matcha haters usually mention and would be improved upon with one of their signature flavorings and syrups. It makes sense as that’s their standard and what’s on their mind when they source the powder.
The drink itself is cheaper compared to other local places with a 16 oz being $5, a 20 oz being $6 and a 24 oz being $6.50. For context, a 16 oz grande at Starbucks is $5.45 (and less fun). They also don’t charge for alternative milk which is uncommon in Madison, annoyingly.
In short, I’ve enjoyed EBNS a lot. I love going there to study with friends and have a drink. The experience can be taken up another step if you get their muffins which are immaculate (get the chocolate chip and french toast flavors!). Stop by 626 Langdon St and pick up your weekly fun drink with a heart pink straw!

📍 Heritage Tavern —

HAPPY HOUR calls for not just drinks, but food! This restaurant excels at both. Grab a huge ham sandwich and parmesan fries 🍟 for an early dinner. Or maybe a fancy deviled egg with grilled cheese filled of brie, sweet jam, and chili oil🌶️. Order yourself a tavern sausage & bacon wrapped cheese curds if you want more of a pub vibe.

Just off the path right by the capital square, it’s a don’t-miss spot in downtown Madison.

📍 The Botanist Social —

Not only is there cocktails, but this State St restaurant also serves food! It’s a great place to go for a late-night dessert such as Crème Brûlée or Chocolate Lava Cake 🍰 The entrees feature lots of fregola, complex flavors and tons of marscapone on top.
