The Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) of Baay National High School, under the guidance of their adviser, Mr. Paul John O. Dawal, continues to champion environmental sustainability and community development. Recently, the officers of YES-O gathered 225 coffee seedlings (Arabica & Excelsa) from Sitio Maluad, Brgy Mapisla, Licuan-Baay, Abra, as part of the Phase V of the YES-O IGP: Coffee Planting For A Cause.
In partnership with the Office of the Municipal Agriculture (OMAg), the seedlings were properly processed, with leaves trimmed and primary roots pruned, following expert instructions to ensure the successful growth of the coffee plants. This process, known as root pruning, is crucial in helping the seedlings thrive and grow into strong, productive trees.
Looking ahead, in 4-6 years, Baay National High School aims to become the first coffee product-producing school in Abra, with the proceeds of this initiative benefitting financially struggling students and SARDOS, through cash assistance and provision of school supplies.
The YES-O Club remains steadfast in its commitment to "Makatulong ta magadadal nga Baayeรฑo, mangpreserba ta aglawlaw tayo, kan mangliklik ta mapasamak nga didigra." Through this initiative, we continue to promote the preservation of our environment while helping our community flourish.
Sustaining the coffee plantation is a key priority for the YES-O Club moving forward. We look forward to seeing the fruits of this endeavor and the positive impact it will have on our school and the community.
