PodbakLAYA is a project under : Para sa Lipunang Malaya, supported by LUPAD, TULAY (Tuloy ang Layunin), and the Youth Leadership for Democracy (YouthLed) through the IGNITE Grants—a grant facility for initiatives aimed at strengthening youth participation in democratic governance. YouthLed is a joint project of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and The Asia Foundation.

PodbakLAYA is also a recipient of the Diskarte 2024 Grant from the Young Public Servants. This project is in partnership with the United States Government Alumni Association - SOX and Podbokasiya, and is in collaboration with SOGI Campaigns, ILGA Asia, Angat Buhay Foundation, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

For seven years, I was a corporate employee. I worked hard, helped customers, led teams, and climbed the ladder of success. I was doing great and earning enough for myself. But deep inside, I felt something was missing. My heart was not fully in it.

I began to realize that my true passion lay elsewhere. I attended my first Pride Parade in Marikina City and right there and then I knew what I wanted. I wanted to make a difference for the LGBTQI community and the youth. I wanted to advocate for their rights and create spaces where they could feel safe, heard, and valued. All these aspirations and I didn’t know where and how to start. I started by joining various youth training and capacity building until AKMK invited me to become a part of their gender justice project, an opportunity I knew I had been waiting for the whole time.

Accepting the role of a project officer for a gender justice project was a big decision. It was scary, but I knew it was the right thing to do. I dedicated my life to advocacy. I started organizing events, workshops, and outreach programs. I listened to people’s stories, shared their pain, and celebrated their victories.
Advocating for the rights of others has been the most challenging yet rewarding journey of my life. I’ve seen the power of empathy and compassion. I’ve witnessed how small acts of kindness can create ripples of change.

One thing I’ve learned is that human suffering often comes from our collective negligence. We tend to lack empathy and turn a blind eye to what’s happening around us, whether it affects us directly or not. This realization pushed me to take action. I couldn’t ignore the struggles of the LGBTQI community and the youth any longer.

Today, I stand proud of the path I chose. My work is far from over, but every step I take brings me closer to a better world for the LGBTQI community and the youth. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that we all have the power to make a difference. All it takes is the courage to care and the willingness to act.

#𝒃𝒂𝒌𝑳𝑨𝒀𝑨: 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒂 𝒔𝒂 𝑳𝒊𝒑𝒖𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒂 has proudly completed the Sogi Campaign Training.🇹🇭

Our dedication to strengthening our campaigns has led #𝒃𝒂𝒌𝑳𝑨𝒀𝑨 to participate in a comprehensive 3-week online course and a subsequent 3-day in-person workshop in Bangkok, organized by ILGA Asia and Sogi Campaigns. This program was designed to enhance our campaign strategies, communication methods, and mobilization tactics. The training not only equipped us with essential skills to promote LGBTQI rights across the region but also fostered valuable connections and provided profound insights into effective advocacy.

Kauna-unahang LeBakla Pride Event, naging masaya!

LEBAK, SULTAN KUDARAT - MASAYA at naging makulay ang isinagawang kauna-unahang pride event sa bayan ng Lebak, Sultan Kudarat, Hunyo 28, 2024.

Naging matagumpay ang LEBAKLA pride event na dinaluhan ng mahigit tatlong daan (300) na myembro ng LGBTQIA+ community at mga taga suporta ng naturang kuminidad.

Isang araw na aktibidad na puno ng mga serbisyong handog ng LeBakla, isa na rito ang Pride March na kung saan pumarada at naglibot sa kahabaan ng Barangay Tibpuan habang suot-sout ang mga makukulay na kasuotan.

Iwinagayway ng mga ito ang rainbow flag na nagsisimbolo sa kanilang makulay na at masayang pananaw sa buhay.

Ang aktibidad na ito ay di lamang para mapakita ang totoong kulay, ito rin ay pakikibaka ng kanilang kuminidad sa kinakaharap diskrminasyon at para sa pantay-pantay na opurtinidad para sa lahat, bakla o tomboy ka man.

Sa huli nagpapasalamat ang mga nag-organisa ng LeBakla sa lahat ng mga tumulong para sa matagumpay na programa.

𝑺𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒊 𝑯𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒉 𝑮𝒖𝒃𝒆𝒍, 𝑹𝑵, and 𝑴𝒔.
