Researchers tracking older adults over several years found that people who spent more time watching television experienced faster loss of brain volume, particularly in areas linked to memory and thinking.

Participants with the highest TV exposure also performed worse on cognitive tests, even after accounting for factors such as age, education, and physical activity. Scientists believe prolonged passive screen time may reduce mental stimulation while encouraging sedentary behavior, both of which are associated with cognitive decline.

Although television itself is not the direct culprit, the findings suggest replacing some viewing time with exercise, reading, or social interaction could help keep the brain healthier as we age.

We join the nation in celebrating Arbor Day by promoting a better, more environmentally sustainable norm through effective re-greening. Like the Little Prince, let us all take time to plant, take care of them, and attend to the needs of the planet.

Arbor Day has been institutionalized in the Philippines through 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗼. 𝟲𝟰𝟯 and is observed every June 25 with tree-nurturing and related activities. The word "arbor" is the Latin term for "tree," which is where the day gets its name.

2026 set to be the worst El Niño since 1870, which killed millions due to food shortages.

Experts warn that it will threaten global food security and weather stability.

New data from NOAA indicates a 65% probability that the planet will experience a "strong" or "very strong" El Niño between October 2026 and February 2027.

This looming event is drawing comparisons to the catastrophic 1877 cycle, which triggered historic famines and droughts responsible for over 50 million deaths worldwide. Unlike the 19th century, however, this phenomenon will occur within an already overheated climate system.

Experts note that because our oceans and atmosphere are significantly warmer today, the resulting weather extremes—from intensified heat waves to devastating floods—could surpass anything recorded in modern history.

The ripple effects of a "super" El Niño extend far beyond the tropical Pacific, often destabilizing global markets and critical infrastructure. Past major events, such as the 1997-1998 cycle, caused tens of billions of dollars in economic damage while driving up food prices and straining water supplies. With modern societies already vulnerable to political instability and humanitarian crises, the arrival of such a powerful climate force poses a massive risk to global resilience. Researchers are closely monitoring warning signs as the system develops, preparing for shifts in hurricane activity, wildfire risks, and agricultural yields that could impact multiple continents simultaneously.

𝗘𝗟 𝗡𝗜𝗡̃𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗬 𝗔𝗟𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗬 𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗝𝗨𝗡𝗘 ⚠️

El Niño is developing in the Pacific Ocean 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱, now likely to emerge next month, according to the newly released update from NOAA Climate Prediction Center.

The latest forecast also raises the possibility that it could intensify into a rare and historically powerful “Super” (Very Strong) El Niño by end of 2026.

For the Philippines, this developing El Niño could trigger a more intense season by June-July before we shift into drier conditions as early as August or September.

The "peak" effects of this El Niño will likely be from January to June 2027, marked by severe drought and extreme heat, which could trigger widespread water and electricity shortage during the Tag-init Season.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 – 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 successfully held its 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬 on May 3, 2026, at Robinson’s Mall in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique. The ceremony recognized scouts who demonstrated exceptional leadership, service, and commitment in earning the highest rank in Scouting.

The event honored those who passed the Eagle Scout Board of Review conducted on September 30–October 1, 2023, and February 8, 2024. Among the distinguished scouts from 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐍𝐨. 𝟐𝟏𝟒 were 𝐄𝐒 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐲𝐧 𝐀. 𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐨 (SPSTE Batch 2022), 𝐄𝐒 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐄. 𝐄𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨 (SPSTE Batch 2022), and 𝐄𝐒 𝐊𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐳 𝐙. 𝐑𝐮𝐛𝐢𝐝𝐨 (SPSTE Batch 2023), who were officially conferred the prestigious Eagle Scout rank.

The awarding highlighted their years of dedication, discipline, and service to their communities.
