Dole wins a Global CSR Award!

Dole Philippines Inc.โ€“Stanfilco Division has earned international recognition, taking home a prestigious Global CSR Award at the 18th Annual Global CSR & ESG Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on April 23.

Driving the companyโ€™s CSR journey, Wilfred Oville Jr., HR Manager for Employee Engagement and Corporate Citizenship, received the honor on behalf of Dole-Stanfilco.

The award, under the category โ€œExcellence in Provision of Literacy & Education,โ€ showcases the companyโ€™s impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) programsโ€”initiatives that not only deliver measurable results in communities, but also demonstrate long-term sustainability, innovation, and resilience in todayโ€™s evolving business landscape.

Considered one of the worldโ€™s premier and longest-running CSR recognition platforms, the Global CSR & ESG Awards celebrates organizations that set the benchmark for purpose-driven, future-ready initiatives.

This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œResetting ESG in a New Economy,โ€ brought together global leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore how AI, energy transition, and geopolitical dynamics are reshaping corporate responsibility.

As the fresh division of Dole in the Philippines, Dole-Stanfilco continues to lead in producing high-value tropical fruits for markets across Asia, Australasia, and the Middle East. At its core is the philosophy of Sampo Yoshiโ€”creating value that is good for the buyer, the seller, and societyโ€”that comes to life through five key pillars: Community Development & Livelihood, Quality Education, Health & Nutrition, Environmental Stewardship, and Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Response.

For six decades, Dole-Stanfilco has gone beyond agriculture excellence by investing heavily in people and communities. At the heart of its interlocking portfolio is the Adopt-A-School Program (ASP), the longest-running multi-year school adoption initiative in Mindanao, Philippines.

Through this program and strong partnership with Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc., the company has expanded access to quality education, supported digital learning, improved health and nutrition, enhanced water and sanitation facilities, opened scholarship pathways, and nurtured environmental awareness among students.

โ€œThe strength of our education agenda lies in their ability to grow with the communities we serve,โ€ shared Mr. Oville. โ€œWhether itโ€™s building facilities, equipping science labs, donating textbooks, or supporting nutrition, we focus on long-term, meaningful impact. More importantly, we believe in partnershipโ€”bringing together the private sector, public education, and communities to create outcomes that last.โ€

This global recognition underscores a simple but powerful vision: sustainable progress is possible when businesses invest not just in growth, but in people.

Sunshine for all! ๐ŸŒž

Kasilak Development Foundation, Inc. (KDFI), together with Dole Philippines โ€“ Stanfilco Division, successfully conducted a meaningful Tree Planting Activity at Tagugpo National High School in Pantukan, Davao de Oro. The activity brought together the enthusiastic participation of the schoolโ€™s students and faculty, creating a shared commitment to care for the environment.

During the activity, participants planted endemic tree species and fruit-bearing trees within the school grounds. Beyond planting trees, the event served as an opportunity to strengthen environmental awareness among the youth and encourage everyone to take an active role in protecting and restoring our natural resources.

Through initiatives like this, KDFI and its partners continue to promote sustainable environmental practices and community involvement, reminding us that even small actionsโ€”like planting a treeโ€”can make a lasting impact on our planet.

The activity also highlighted the importance of collective action, as students, teachers, and partner organizations worked side by side to contribute to a greener and more resilient community.

๐ŸŒฟ Together, letโ€™s continue planting seeds of hope for the future. ๐ŸŒฟ

In the farming community of ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐ฏ๐š๐ซ, ๐๐ž๐ฐ ๐๐š๐ง๐š๐ฒ, mornings often begin with the sound of roosters crowing and the rustling of leaves from fruit trees swaying in the wind. Among these trees stands a thriving durian plantationโ€”rows of tall trees that once began as fragile seedlings.

For ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐œ๐จ๐ฌ ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ง, every tree carries a memory.

โ€œWhen I first planted these durian trees, they were just small seedlings. I never imagined they would grow like this,โ€ Macoy recalled, looking across his plantation.

Two decades ago, his farm looked very different.

In the early 2000s, life for many farmers in the upland communities of Maragusan was uncertain. Most families relied on traditional crops, and income often fluctuated depending on weather and market prices.

Macoy remembers those days clearly.

โ€œBefore, our harvest was not always enough. We worked hard, but the income was still uncertain,โ€ he said.

Everything began to change in 2005, when Macoy became one of the farmers supported by the ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐š๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐š๐ง ๐•๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฒ ๐€๐ซ๐ž๐š ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐œ๐ž ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ (๐Œ๐š๐•๐€๐‘๐ƒ) ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฃ๐ž๐œ๐ญ, implemented through ๐Š๐š๐ฌ๐ข๐ฅ๐š๐ค ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐…๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ. in partnership with ๐‚๐š๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ ๐‘๐ž๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐Ÿ ๐’๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐ข๐œ๐ž๐ฌ (๐‚๐‘๐’) and ๐ƒ๐จ๐ฅ๐ž ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ - ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ง๐Ÿ๐ข๐ฅ๐œ๐จ ๐ƒ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง.

The project aimed to strengthen livelihoods and improve agricultural practices among farmers in the Maragusan Valley. It introduced new farming techniques, provided agricultural inputs, and encouraged farmers to explore high-value crops that could thrive in the areaโ€™s fertile soil.

For Macky, the project opened a new path.

Among the crops introduced through the program was durian, a fruit well known across Mindanao but not yet widely cultivated by many smallholder farmers at the time.

The idea intrigued Macoy.

โ€œThey told us that durian could be a good long-term investment. At first, I was unsure because it takes many years before the trees produce fruit,โ€ he shared.

Still, Macoy decided to try.

With the help of the MaVARD project, he received durian seedlings and training on proper farm management. He learned how to care for young trees, manage soil fertility, and protect crops from pests.

But the journey was far from easy.

Durian trees require patience.

โ€œThere were times I wondered if the trees would really grow well. But I kept taking care of them because I believed that one day they would bear fruit,โ€ Macoy said.

For several years, Macoy continued tending his farmโ€”clearing weeds, nurturing the soil, and making sure the young trees stayed healthy.

While waiting for the durian trees to mature, he continued planting other crops to support his family.

The work required persistence, but Macoy never gave up.

Across other upland communities, similar initiatives were helping farmers improve their livelihoods. Stories from communities like Mahayahay showed how development programs that combined agricultural support with environmental stewardship could bring renewed hope to rural families.

These collective efforts slowly transformed the landscapeโ€”and the lives of the farmers who depended on it.

Then, after years of waiting, Macoy saw the first signs of success.

His durian trees began to bear fruit.

โ€œI still remember the first time we harvested durian from the farm. It was a proud moment for me and my family,โ€ he said with a smile.

What began as a handful of seedlings had grown into a productive plantation. Each harvest season brought more fruitsโ€”and more opportunities.

The durian plantation became a reliable source of income for Macoyโ€™s family. With the additional earnings, he was able to invest further in his farm and improve their quality of life.

โ€œThe durian helped us a lot. Because of this farm, we were able to support our family better,โ€ Macoy shared.

Today, Mackoyโ€™s farm stands as an example of what long-term agricultural investments can achieve.

Rows of durian trees stretch across his land, their branches heavy with fruit during harvest season.

For Macoy, the plantation is more than just a livelihoodโ€”it is proof that patience and perseverance can bear fruit.

โ€œIf you take care of the trees and do not give up, they will reward you in time,โ€ he said.

His story has also inspired other farmers in the community to consider planting high-value crops and investing in sustainable farming practices.

The seeds planted through the MaVARD Project in 2005 have grown far beyond individual farms. They have nurtured confidence among farmers and strengthened the agricultural future of communities across Maragusan.

Standing beneath the shade of his durian trees, Macoy reflects on the journey.

โ€œThese harvests remind me that every small beginning can grow into something big, as long as you continue to care for it,โ€ he said.

And with every harvest season, the fruits falling from his trees tell the same storyโ€”one of patience, resilience, and hope.

Participants engaged in collective tree hugging as a symbolic gesture of commitment to conserving nature, followed by the actual planting of trees within the forest area.

Such activities not only help expand green cover and support local biodiversity but also serve as powerful educational experiences for students and residents. They foster a deeper appreciation of the environment and a sense of shared responsibility for protecting natural resources โ€” values that are critical in building climate-resilient communities.

These environmental activities reflect Kasilakโ€™s long-standing engagement in natural resource management and conservation, aligning with its mission to promote sustainable practices and community participation in forest and watershed rehabilitation across Mindanao.

Both outreach efforts exemplify how multi-stakeholder partnerships can translate into real, on-the-ground impact. Through collaboration with local schools, corporate partners, civic organizations, and government entities, Kasilak Development Foundation continues to advance its vision of holistic community development โ€” where education, health, and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.

These initiatives not only support immediate needs โ€” like access to learning materials and health resources โ€” but also cultivate long-term awareness and action among young learners and their communities. They demonstrate a shared belief that empowered and informed citizens are key to building stronger, greener, and more resilient communities throughout the region.
