👨🏻‍🚒💪🏼🏆
One of our own firefighters is currently in the Hawke’s Bay this weekend competing in what is undeniably the toughest two minutes in sport.

Good luck Simon Witt!! We’re proud of you, and know your training and grit will get you past the finish line. Dig deep!

🕰️ That extra hour is here!
Daylight Saving is a great reminder to do two simple things:

✅ Check your smoke alarms😴 Enjoy a well‑earned nap (we recommend at least 55 minutes!)

A working smoke alarm can be the difference between life and death—please take a moment today to test yours and replace batteries if needed.

If you need any assistance, please message us!

🧑🏼‍🚒 Kia hari te rā Wāhine o te Ao – Happy International Women’s Day 🧑🏼‍🚒

Today we take a moment to recognise and celebrate the incredible women who are part of our brigade.

Our wahine firefighters and supporters juggle many roles — mothers, grandmothers, professionals, volunteers, leaders and mentors — yet still give their time and energy to serve our community.

They bring resilience, dedication, strength and a great sense of humour to the station, helping make our brigade what it is today. We are proud to stand alongside them.

Today we acknowledge the impact they make, the work they do, and the example they set for the next generation.

We also want to recognise the women behind the scenes — the wives, partners, mothers and daughters who support our members, keep things running at home, and stand beside us through late nights and long call-outs. Your support does not go unnoticed.

From all of us at the Tokomaru Volunteer Fire Brigade, we celebrate and thank the amazing women in our brigade, our community, and around the world.

🔥 Awesome night of training down at our local river

We spent the evening incorporating a rural training scenario and working alongside other local stations.

A huge thank you to Palmerston North Volunteer Fire Brigade, Palmerston North Operational Support Unit, and Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade for making the trip into our town and joining us. We really appreciate the teamwork and shared knowledge 👨‍🚒🚒

Strong training makes strong responses 💪🔥

With much of the country expecting severe weather over the coming days, make sure you and your whānau are prepared for severe weather and flooding!

⚠️ Make sure you have a grab bag with emergency supplies on hand in case you need to evacuate in a hurry. Remember to pack things like copies of important documents, photo ID and medications.

⚠️ Stay up to date with the latest weather information from MetService New Zealand

⚠️ Bring anything that can be broken or picked up by strong winds inside or tie them down when strong winds are forecast.

⚠️ Identify a safe location in your whare/home for household members to gather during a thunderstorm in case you need to shelter in place.

⚠️ Keep materials at hand for repairing windows, such as tarpaulins, boards and duct tape.

⚠️ If you have livestock, know which paddocks are safe to move livestock away from floodwaters, landslides and power lines.

Remember, never enter, swim or drive through flood water. Driving conditions will be hazardous in many areas so avoid unnecessary travel and if you are on the roads, take extra care.

🚒 Welcome to 2026 from the Tokomaru Volunteer Fire Brigade 🚒

As we welcome in 2026, the Tokomaru Volunteer Fire Brigade would like to wish our community a safe, happy, and healthy year ahead.

A few simple summer fire safety tips:

🔥 Mow long grass and remove dry leaves and debris
🔥 Clear gutters, roofs, and around buildings
🔥 Trim trees and vegetation away from houses and accessways
🔥 Keep driveways and access routes clear for fire appliances
🔥 Maintain a clear space around buildings and water sources
🔥 Have an evacuation plan and talk it through with your whānau

These small actions can make a big difference in an emergency and help keep our community and firefighters safer.

Thank you for your continued support of your local volunteer firefighters. We’re proud to serve Tokomaru and will be here when you need us.

Stay safe, look out for one another, and let’s make 2026 a great year ❤️🔥
