KVFD is an all-volunteer fire company operating from Station 62, in the Town of Kelford, in Bertie County. Members receive no personal compensation for fire department activities. KVFD is rated by NCOSFM. Kelford Volunteer Fire Department is alerted by Bertie Communications through a county paging system and text messages, and a fire siren which can be activated locally or remotely by Communications. KVFD members carry pagers. The station is normally unmanned but secured. The Department depends on fund-raising efforts by members and supporters and some funding from Bertie County under contracted response agreement. Sirens are tested by Bertie Communications at noon on each Tuesday. Additionally, the community may hear this signal for 2nd and 3rd Monday training meetings at 19:00 hrs. General Information
KVFD Apparatus
-Engine 6211: 1993 Quality Engine. 1250 GPM Hale pump. 1000 gallon tank. Onboard Honda 5000 watt generator. Water cannon, 2.5" and 1.5" hose lines. Carries hard suction and Portable drop tank.
-Engine 6212: 1997 KME, acquired from Wendell Fire Department. 1250 GPM pump. Water cannon. 1000 gallon tank.
-Tanker 6231: 1997 International,1500 gallons, 3 dumps.
-Brush/Utility Truck 6242: 2012 Ford F-350 with air shocks added, slide-in pump and 300 gallon water tank. Transports Hurst tool and crash tools ( Hurst tool generously donated by Fort Morgan FD in Colorado). Bertie County Water Department owns the hydrants.
