Our Condolences to the UP Community and the Family of Dr. Dionisia A. Rola. May She rest in Peace in God's Eternal Glory🙏

With profound sorrow, the University of the Philippines Visayas mourns the passing of its first chancellor, Dr. Dionisia A. Rola.

Members of Dr. Rola’s family confirmed that she passed away last night, Aug. 26, 2026.

During her time with the University, Dr. Rola pushed for the establishment of UP Visayas in Miagao. She lobbied for the creation of a new autonomous campus in the Visayas, requested a loan from the World Bank, and held coordination activities with concerned officials at the national and local levels for the lot acquisition.

As a leader, Dr. Rola set the bar high for others to follow. People who had the privilege to work with her can attest that she worked tirelessly to accomplish her goals. She showed dedication in attending meetings to represent her office and other organizations she was affiliated with outside of UP Visayas. Her diligence and approach to work carried over after she was given the keys as dean of UP-College Iloilo and eventually the chancellor of UP Visayas.

Dr. Rola made sure her work was near perfect, and this trickled down to the people she trained. While she was admired for her work ethic, Dr. Rola also made sure that she listened to the community she served — she took time to communicate with UPV personnel and those affected by the land acquisition for the establishment of the campus in Miagao.

The University mourns such a massive loss, but may her legacy endure.

Rest in peace, Dr. Rola. You will be missed dearly.

Daily Reflection

Today Jesus tells us: “Stay awake!” His words are not meant to make us afraid, but to remind us that every day is an opportunity to live faithfully and be ready for Him. We do not know when the Lord will call us, so we should not postpone doing what is right, asking forgiveness, showing love, or serving others.

Saint Paul reminds us that God has already given us the grace we need and will keep us firm to the end. The Psalm calls us to praise God every day. To stay awake, therefore, is to live each day faithfully, gratefully, and purposefully—doing our responsibilities well and keeping Jesus at the center of our lives.

Resolution of the Day

Today, I will live as though this day were a precious gift from God. I will not delay doing good, forgiving, loving, praying, and fulfilling my responsibilities. I will keep my heart awake and ready for Jesus, trusting that He will remain faithful to me until the end. 🙏❤️✝️

Wednesday of the Twenty-First Week in Ordinary Time

Daily Reflection

Jesus’ words today are firm because true love does not ignore what needs to change. He rebukes hypocrisy—the temptation to appear good on the outside while allowing pride, resentment, dishonesty, or selfishness to remain within. Yet His correction is not meant to destroy us; it is meant to bring us back to Him. Even the hardness of our hearts cannot stop Jesus from caring for us. Sometimes His love comes as comfort; at other times, it comes as the firm correction we need. Saint Paul likewise reminds us to live responsibly and faithfully, while the Psalm teaches that true blessedness comes from walking in the ways of the Lord. What matters before God is not merely how we appear, but who we truly are when only He can see our hearts.

Resolution of the Day

Today, I will welcome correction instead of resisting it. I will examine my heart honestly, correct what needs to change, and make sure that my words, actions, and intentions are consistent. Lord, remove the hardness of my heart and make me genuine before You and others. 🙏❤️✝️

Today, Iloilo City made a big step towards a great future. I am signing an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the BYD company ,a global company with presence in 56 countries and 260 cities. the MOU will made it possibke to explore and study the possiblity of putting up a Skyrail around the city.

Connectivity and ease of travel make a livable city. In a booming city its is a fundamental obligation and a noble duty of the mayor to plan ahead and implement solutions to problems like traffic and congestion

Come with me as we work together for the future with optimism, renewed vigor and a great deal of enthusiasm inspired by our love of Iloilo city.

Daily Reflection

God invites everyone to His Kingdom, but His invitation asks for more than simply showing up—it calls for a changed heart and a faithful life. Ezekiel promises that God will cleanse us and give us a new heart and a new spirit, while the Psalm asks Him to create a clean heart within us. In the Gospel, the wedding feast reminds us that God’s grace is freely offered, but we must willingly respond and allow that grace to transform how we live. “Many are invited, but few are chosen.” May we never take God’s invitation for granted, but answer Him each day through faith, humility, obedience, and love.

Resolution of the Day

Today, I will say YES to God’s invitation not only with my words but through my actions. I will examine my heart, let go of anything that separates me from Him, and choose to live with kindness, humility, forgiveness, and faithfulness—so that my life may show that I have truly accepted His call. 🙏❤️✝️
