Laging Handa, Quezon City, from November 21 to 24, 2024.
The summit, led by Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL) with support from various Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), is part of the SCROL Project, a global SEC Programme of TdH NL, and Project CONEC (Creating a Safer Online Environment for Every Child). Co-funded by the EU Delegation, these initiatives aim to create safer digital spaces and empower young people to protect themselves.
This event aims to amplify the voices of Filipino youth on critical issues such as Online S*xual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), child labor, and the rights of LGBTI youth, with a focus on advocacy that can shape national policies and protections.
APEER Ilocos Sur members actively engaged by sharing insights and promoting their advocacies, particularly on S*xual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and S*x Characteristics (SOGIESC); Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) awareness; S*x Education; Online S*xual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child S*xual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM).
On Day 1, the summit featured discussions on the current state of children in the Philippines, mental health awareness, and responsible media literacy. These sessions provided a platform for APEER Ilocos Sur members to share their perspectives on the situation in our province.
Day 2 highlighted the Regional Breakout Session and National Prioritization of Key Asks, where participants collaborated to exchange experiences and insights from their respective regions. Notably, Jance Eric M. Del Rosario served as part of the facilitators' team, gaining valuable experience in organizing and leading breakout sessions.
Nonetheless, this summit gave our APEER Ilocos Sur members more insights and knowledge on how children and youth like them could potentially affect, influence, shape, and change the future toward a more progressive nation. It enriched their knowledge and perspectives, empowering them to address critical youth issues and influence a more progressive future. By acknowledging and addressing these challenges, young leaders like them take meaningful steps toward creating impactful changes for children and youth nationwide.
