Navarrete, PhD on his appointment as the Campus Director of Southern Leyte State UniversityโHinunangan Campus. This esteemed position is a natural acknowledgment of his leadership, visionary thinking, and lifelong dedication to research, education, and sustainable development.

โProfessor Navarreteโs journey in academe and science is both inspiring and exemplary. He began his academic career with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Soil Science, from Visayas State University โ laying the foundation for a lifelong passion in understanding and protecting our land and environment. He continued at Visayas State University, where he earned his Master of Science in Soil Science, deepening his expertise in soil properties and environmental systems.

โDriven by global curiosity and scholarly excellence, Dr. Navarrete pursued further studies in Japan, attaining a Master of Agriculture in Agro-Environmental Science from Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. This advanced training enriched his understanding of soil-environment interactions within agricultural systems.

โHe then achieved his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Soil Science (Science of Bioproduction) through the United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences at Iwate University, Japan, where his research made important contributions to global soil science and bioproduction studies.

โFurther solidifying his expertise, Dr. Navarrete conducted post-doctoral research in Soil Science of Tropical and Subtropical Ecosystems at Georg-August University of Gรถttingen, Germany, under a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Foundation fellowship.

โThroughout his career he has emerged as a multi-awarded international soil and environmental scientist, whose research spans topics such as carbon sequestration in soils, soil pollution and remediation, environmental health assessment, and sustainable land management. His published works and collaborations with scientists around the world have significantly elevated the research profile of SLSU and the Philippines.

โAs he assumes this vital leadership role, we celebrate not just his academic excellence but also his deep commitment to mentoring young scientists, advancing interdisciplinary research, and forging global partnerships that benefit both the university and the broader community.
