On June 27, 2026, PAGBASA: May Pag-asa sa Pagbasa successfully conducted its third learning session at Don Remegio M. Limsiaco Elementary School in Barangay Libacao, Himamaylan City. The activity formed part of the program's continuing mission to strengthen the literacy skills of young learners through engaging, interactive, and meaningful educational experiences facilitated by its dedicated volunteer teachers.
The learning session began with an opening prayer led by Sofia Gentile, creating a peaceful, positive, and focused atmosphere for both the learners and volunteers. The prayer encouraged everyone to begin the day with gratitude, unity, and enthusiasm, reminding participants of the importance of working together in building a supportive and inspiring learning environment.
One of the highlights of the session was an engaging storytelling activity facilitated by Marie Dawn Hope Faca, who brought the classic Filipino folktale "Ang Alamat ng Pinya" to life through expressive narration and interactive discussions. The learners listened attentively as the story unfolded, eagerly participating in the discussion and answering questions about its message. More than simply entertaining the children, the folktale imparted valuable lessons on obedience, responsibility, humility, and the importance of listening to one's parents. The storytelling activity also enhanced the learners' listening comprehension, imagination, critical thinking, and appreciation for Filipino literature and culture.
Following the storytelling session, the volunteers proceeded with the formal lesson on the Filipino Alphabet, facilitated by Jalyn Faulan and Sofia Gentile. Through interactive discussions, letter recognition activities, pronunciation drills, and engaging classroom exercises, the learners were guided in identifying, pronouncing, and understanding each letter of the Filipino alphabet. The lesson was carefully designed to strengthen their foundational literacy skills while encouraging active participation, building confidence, and developing their interest in reading and language learning.
Throughout the session, the volunteer teachers demonstrated patience, enthusiasm, and genuine care for the learners, ensuring that every child felt encouraged to participate and celebrate each learning achievement. The children's excitement and active involvement reflected the positive learning environment fostered by the volunteers, making the session both productive and enjoyable.
