Every year, the Philippines observes National Flag Day as a national holiday to commemorate the country's independence from the Spanish.

What message does the Philippine flag convey?

*Blue represents peace, truth, and justice
*Red: a symbol of patriotism and valor
*White represents liberty, equality and fraternity
*A five-pointed star at each of the triangle's corners represents each of the three major island groups: Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon. The Visayas formerly referred to Panay Island.
