Perhaps art and ecology are not really separate things in Sagay. Both are about paying attention to the place you call home. Both are about preserving what is worth preserving. And both, when done sincerely, are about people.

Sagay is not merely an authentic ecotourism destination. It is also a genuine art scene — a place where environmental protection, local culture, and creativity are woven into everyday life.

Join us at Mugna Gallery on Saturday, September 12, 4 PM, and witness a series of performances with the artists of Paglungtad.

The artworks of Paglungtad and the performance series reflect on the methods these artists use to respond to the structures and systems that have defined their lived experiences and realities.

Czar Vergantinos will tape out a floorplan from “There Is No Door Into This House” on to the grounds of Mugna Gallery, while Kaith Pelicano, fashioned in her bug outfit, will perform “Quintessential Woman” and to conclude the afternoon, Gertrelle Sumicad will sing her songs from “Adlaw-Adlaw.”

See you at Mugna Gallery!

Congratulations to /Projects artists Nune Alvarado (2022) and Imelda Cajipe-Endaya (2026) for being named National Artists for Visual Arts!

Cajipe-Endaya’s practice has long explored contemporary social issues, with a strong focus on women’s experiences and empowerment. She is the first woman given this award for the visual arts.

Alvarado, considered one of the grand old men of Negrense visual arts, has created a powerful body of socially conscious work rooted in Negros, portraying workers, coastal communities, and the realities of life in the Visayas.

We’re proud to celebrate these two remarkable artists and their enduring contributions to Philippine contemporary art!
