𝐂𝐀𝐇𝐅𝐓𝐇𝐄-𝐃𝐑 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬!

𝐂𝐀𝐇𝐅𝐓𝐇𝐄-𝐃𝐑 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐢 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲

The Council of Academic Heads for Tourism and Hospitality Education – Davao Region (CAHFTHE-DR) held its 4th Quarter Meeting at DOIT College in Mati City, Davao Oriental, bringing together academic leaders from various institutions across the region.

The program opened with a welcome message from DOIT College President Ronald Sabandal, delivered through his representative.

Department of Tourism XI Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan served as the first resource speaker, presenting updates on the tourism industry and the Regional Tourism Plan. She emphasized the role of the tourism sector and the academe in regional development and identified key areas for improvement, including manpower development, promotion, infrastructure, and governance. She also called for stronger collaboration between industry and academic institutions, particularly in research and training.

The second presentation was delivered by CHED XI Education Supervisor Dr. Leomar Oblianda, who discussed findings from his action research on institutional capacities and priority needs. He underscored the responsibility of higher education institutions to uphold CHED standards and support faculty development, reaffirming CHED’s commitment to strengthening policy awareness and professional growth.

CAHFTHE-DR President Don Jae Bontia concluded the morning session with updates on the organization’s 2025 accomplishments, highlighting expanded partnerships, professional development programs, and capacity-building initiatives. He expressed optimism for increased collaboration and higher achievements in 2026.

In the afternoon, the academic heads participated in a city tour aimed at promoting environmental awareness. They visited Guang-Guang Mangrove Park and the Dahican Turtle Egg Hatchery, where they learned about local conservation efforts. Inspired by these initiatives, the participants pledged to reinforce sustainability programs and support community-based environmental protection.

Courtesy Visit to DOT-XI Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan

The officers of the Council of Academic Heads for Tourism and Hospitality Education – Davao Region (CAHFTHE-DR) paid a courtesy visit to DOT-XI Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan to strengthen collaboration between the academe and the tourism industry.

Key discussion points included:
*Establishing an Industry–Academe Advisory Board for HM & TM programs
*Enhancing curriculum alignment and quality assurance with industry input
*Promoting research and collaboration with LGUs and tourism offices
*Supporting and integrating DOT–CHED initiatives like FBSE and TIEZA programs

The meeting highlighted the importance of strong industry-academe partnerships to ensure relevant education, boost graduate employability, and support sustainable tourism development.

Present during the visit were CAHFTHE-DR officers: Don Jae Bontia, Joji Rose Parondo, Mark Joseph Nipas, Eunice Redith Manalo, Dr. Dindo Silud, and CHEDRO-XI Education Supervisor II & Adviser Dr. Leomar Jay R. Oblianda.

SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH!

The 1st General Membership Caravan of the Council of Academic Heads for Tourism and Hospitality Education – Davao Region (CAHFTHE-DR) was a resounding success! Held last August 12, 2025, at Aces Polytechnic College, Panabo City, the event gathered an impressive 27 educational institutions and 38 individual members from across the region.
Led by the dedicated board officers and adviser of CAHFTHE-DR:

• Joji Rose Parondo, VP for Zone 1
• Allimar Nuevo, VP for Zone 2
• Earlynne Villegas, VP for Zone 3
• Mark Joseph Nipas, Board Secretary

• Dr. Rommel Erwin Anca, Board Auditor
• Dr. Dindo Silud, Public Relations Officer
• Dr. Gypsy Mae Casurao, Board Adviser

Special participation from Dr. Leomar Jay R. Oblianda, Education Supervisor II of CHEDRO-XI, who shared updates on CHED’s PROMES, a PSG submission system (PMS).

The full-day event showcased CAHFTHE-DR’s vision and objectives, as articulated by Mr. Don Jae Bontia, emphasizing the organization's commitment to academic excellence, collaboration, and innovation in tourism, hospitality, and allied education.

The day concluded with a meaningful community extension activity—a mangrove tree planting at the Panabo Mangrove Forest Park, underscoring the group’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

CAHFTHE-DR, officially organized last June 19, 2025, is set to bring the next membership caravan to Davao Oriental in the 4th quarter of 2025.
