[OFFICIAL STATEMENT] REJECTING TOXIC INFLUENCES: Protecting the Identity and Safety of the Filipino Youth
The tragedy that unfolded on the first day of school in Taclobanβresulting in the loss of three young student livesβis a horrific wake-up call. For us at Oplan Kabag-Ohan, as an organization catering to peer-in-crisis learners, this hits dangerously close to home.
The digital age has blurred geographic borders, exposing our youth to the global stage. But while Western culture offers innovation, it also exports a lethal subculture. The disturbing conversations recovered from the minor suspects reveal a mindset deeply poisoned by internet "gangsterism."
When pulling a trigger, romanticizing violence, and entering a jail cell as a minor become badges of honor, we are looking at a systemic collapse. It is a failure of identity nurturing, a breakdown of modern parenting, and a severe erosion of our national identity.
We are Filipinos. Our culture is rooted in being warm, hospitable, peaceful, and resilientβtraits symbolized by our vibrant flag and our shared heritage. We must teach the youth where to draw the boundary. Consuming foreign media should not mean erasing our innate humanity and national pride.
As our leadership recently emphasized, the unchecked πΊπ½π½ππΌππππ ππ πππΌππΊπ
ππΎπ½ππΊ leaves our youth vulnerable to toxic algorithms that glorify crime.
Millions of pieces of data are consumed daily, and without guidance, our children absorb destructive definitions of what is "cool."
We must ask ourselves: Hindi na ba kaproud-proud maging isang Pilipino?

Behind this violence lies a deeper root causeβa cry for identity, belonging, and intervention that went unanswered. Oplan Kabag-Ohan stands firm in its commitment to help peer-in-crisis learners recover, heal, and transform. We call on parents, teachers, and student leaders to look beyond the surface of bad behavior and address the psychological and cultural crises killing our youth.
Let us reclaim our schools as sanctuaries of peace and learning.
