In 1960, Professors R. Byron (Bob) Bird, Warren E. Stewart, and Edwin N. Lightfoot of the University of Wisconsin-Madison published their seminal textbook, 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗣𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗮.

Before the trio, the discipline was largely taught through empirical rules and isolated unit operations. They fundamentally transformed the curriculum worldwide by unifying the interrelated physical principles of:
