Some things are worth the wait, and this is definitely one of them! After months of juggling busy family schedules and waiting for the weather to cooperate, Mrs. Jo Anne Gumapac and her family finally checked in for their much-awaited staycation at Crosswinds Tagaytay on October 23–24, 2026!

Mrs. Jo Anne was the FIRST LUCKY WINNER of WPAA’s PAWMILY STAYCATION fund drive, drawn on June 15, 2026! 🎉 And now, her long-awaited prize has finally become a wonderful family getaway!

We hope you and your family had a relaxing, refreshing, and memorable time enjoying the beautiful scenery and cool breeze of Tagaytay!

CHANCE: ANOTHER WPAA's SMALL VICTORY

Three months ago, Chance was a severely injured stray fighting for his life. On the day of his rescue, his wounds were infested with maggots, and his body smelled like rotting flesh. His hind leg was badly injured, and his condition was heartbreaking. He was in pain, vulnerable, and facing an uncertain future.

But even in his darkest moment, Chance deserved a chance to live. ❤️‍🩹

His journey was far from easy. He needed extensive medical care, endured surgery, and faced a long road to recovery. There were difficult decisions, anxious moments, and challenges that tested everyone who stood by him.

And today? LOOK AT OUR BOY NOW! 🥹🐈🧡

Three months later, Chance is standing tall, healing, and growing stronger. His transformation is a beautiful reminder of what love, compassion, veterinary care, and determination can do.

Behind this transformation are the people who refused to give up on him, the veterinary team who cared for him, the generous donors who helped shoulder his medical expenses, and every kind heart that believed his life was worth saving.

Chance’s story reminds us that rescue is not just about taking an animal off the streets. It is about seeing value in a life that others might overlook, choosing compassion when the situation seems hopeless, and staying until healing becomes possible.

ONLINE ANIMAL CRUELTY: WHAT ARE WE REALLY SHARING?

Meet Winaya Tippy, SMACC Coordinator for Asia for Animals Coalition, one of the speakers joining us at PAWCon 2026.

At PAWCon, she will present the different forms of online animal cruelty, including fake and staged rescue content, and how social media engagement and recommendation systems can affect what people see and how widely harmful content spreads.

She will also discuss responsible reporting, what reports may mean for platform moderation, and the difficult balance between raising awareness and unintentionally amplifying cruelty content.

As of October 11, 2026, 379 dogs and cats of Washington Place have been spayed and neutered through the continued efforts of WPAA and its dedicated volunteers, with the support of a handful of WP residents and our veterinary partners.

Every kapon is a step toward fewer homeless animals, healthier WP Community, and a future where no cat or dog has to suffer because of overpopulation.

We hope that more and more Washingtonians will join us in supporting this cause.

THE WEIGHT OF KINDNESS, THE COST OF CARING 💜💔🖤💛

Yesterday, we core advocates came home from another day of TNV (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate) efforts for our community, physically exhausted, our clothes and spirits tested by the unpredictable weather. The skies couldn’t decide whether to pour or shine, much like the unpredictable moments that came with the day.

But the rain wasn’t the hardest part. Neither was the endless chasing, the failed attempts, or the cats that remained elusive despite our best efforts.

It was the hostility of some neighbors — the sharp words, the entitled demands, the way some spoke to us as though we were beneath them, forgetting that we were not there because it was our job, but because we chose to care.

We were there on our own time, spending our own energy, giving what little we could for a cause that benefits the very community we call home. We were volunteers, not servants; Neighbors, not nuisances; People who chose to help, not people who deserved to be ordered around.

And yet, amid the unpleasant encounters, there were little things that made the day bearable.

A voice from a second-floor window saying, “Thank you.” A passing “Good job!”, or a friendly wave from someone who understood, even without knowing the whole story, that what we were doing mattered.

Perhaps they didn’t realize how much those simple gestures meant. Perhaps they didn’t know that, after a difficult encounter, a few kind words could be enough to help weary hearts keep going.

Yesterday reminded us again that in community work, we don’t just encounter stray animals. We encounter the many sides of humanity, too. Some will question our presence. Some will make our work harder. Others will quietly remind us why we started in the first place.

And so, despite the aching bodies, the damp clothes, the frustration, and the exhaustion, we will keep showing up.

Not because everyone appreciates what we do; Not because kindness is always returned, but because the animals cannot speak for themselves, and someone has to care enough to speak, act, and do the difficult work.

We do not ask for applause. We do not expect everyone to understand. But we hope for respect. Because kindness should never be mistaken for weakness, and volunteerism should never be treated as an obligation owed to anyone.

To those who offered a smile, a wave, a word of encouragement, or simply allowed us the space to do our work — thank you. You may never know how much lighter you made our burden.

And to our fellow volunteers and our loyal supporters who continue to give despite the challenges: rest when you must, breathe when it gets heavy, and remember that even when the work feels thankless, every life we help is a reason to carry on.

The weather will change, the bruises will fade, the exhaustion will pass. But somewhere out there in our community a cat or a dog will live a healthier life because we chose not to look away.

And that, despite everything, will always make the struggle worthwhile.
