Parents, we must not only ask: โ€œAnak, mataas ba grades mo?โ€

Also ask:
โ€œMay nasaktan ka ba today?โ€
โ€œMay nabu-bully ka ba?โ€
โ€œMay natulungan ka ba?โ€
โ€œMay kailangan ka bang hingan ng sorry?โ€
โ€œNaging mabait ka ba today?โ€
โ€œHow did you treat others today?โ€

These days, very rampant ng bullying and it is no longer something we can simply call โ€œkids being kids.โ€ It is happening in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, group chats, and social media. A recent report cited that 65% of Filipino students experienced some form of bullying at least a few times a month.

So hindi lang dapat โ€œMag-aral kang mabuti.โ€

We also need to tell them:
โ€œMatuto kang rumespeto.โ€
โ€œMatuto kang umunawa.โ€
โ€œMatuto kang humingi ng tawad.โ€
โ€œMatuto kang tumanggap ng correction.โ€
โ€œMatuto kang maging mabuti kahit walang nakakakita.โ€

And parents, these foundation donโ€™t begin in the classroom. They begin at HOME.

Proverbs 22:6 reminds us:
โ€œStart children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.โ€

The home is the FIRST CLASSROOM.

Before teachers teach them mathematics,
parents teach them values.

So parents, donโ€™t measure your parenting only by your childโ€™s achievements.

One day, the awards will gather dust.
The grades will become numbers on old papers.
The trophies will stay on shelves.
But the character you built in them?
That will follow them wherever they go.

So yes, encourage them to study.
Push them to do their best.
Celebrate their achievements.

BUT while youโ€™re teaching them how to get good grades, teach them how to be good humans.

And maybe the fight against bullying doesnโ€™t just begin with a school policy.
Maybe it begins at the dinner table.
Maybe it begins in our homes.
Maybe it begins in our churches.
Maybe it begins with US.

Raise achievers, yes.
But above all, raise good humans with godly character. ๐Ÿคโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

Teaching has never been just about delivering lessons.

It's also about correcting behavior, setting boundaries, and helping young people grow into responsible adults.

That responsibility isn't always easy.

In recent years, we've seen heartbreaking incidents where teachers have been threatened, physically attacked, or publicly condemned while simply trying to manage their classrooms. We've also seen situations where disagreements over discipline quickly escalate before both sides have had the chance to understand what really happened.

These incidents affect more than one teacher.

They leave many educators wondering, "If I correct this behavior, will I be supported or will I become the next target?"

The reality is that fear and effective teaching cannot exist in the same classroom.

A teacher who is constantly afraid of being attacked, threatened, or unfairly judged may hesitate to correct inappropriate behavior. And when necessary correction is avoided because of fear, it is not only the teacher who is affected. Every student in that classroom loses an opportunity to learn in a safe, orderly environment.

This doesn't mean teachers should never be questioned. Teachers, like everyone else, can make mistakes and should always treat students with fairness, dignity, and respect.

But when concerns arise, they should be addressed through calm communication, due process, and a genuine desire to understand the full picture--not through intimidation, violence, or public shaming.

Parents and teachers are not opponents.

Both want children to learn, grow, and succeed.

When a teacher corrects a student appropriately, it is often not an act of anger. It is an act of guidance. Likewise, when parents have concerns, they deserve to be heard respectfully.

Education is strongest when there is trust on both sides.

Students deserve classrooms where they feel safe.

Teachers deserve that same sense of safety, too.

Because we cannot expect teachers to shape future generations if they are afraid to do one of the most important parts of their job: teaching, guiding, and correcting with care.

ON THIS DAY ๐Ÿ”ฌ

On this day, July 18, 1635, English scientist and inventor Robert Hooke was born on the Isle of Wight.

Known as one of the most versatile experimental scientists of the 17th century, Hooke contributed to microscopy, physics, astronomy, engineering, geology, and scientific instrumentation. He worked alongside Robert Boyle and designed an improved air pump used in experiments involving air pressure, respiration, combustion, and vacuums. He later became the Royal Societyโ€™s first Curator of Experiments in 1662.

His most influential work, Micrographia, was published in 1665 and revealed a previously unseen microscopic world through detailed observations and illustrations. While examining thin slices of cork, Hooke described their tiny, box-like compartments as โ€œcellsโ€โ€”the first known use of the word in a biological context.

Hooke also developed the principle now known as Hookeโ€™s Law, which explains how a spring or elastic material stretches in proportion to the force applied within its elastic limit. The principle remains fundamental to physics, engineering, and materials science.

His work also extended to the skies. Hooke built a working Gregorian reflecting telescope, identified a fifth star in Orionโ€™s Trapezium, studied planetary rotation, and explored ideas concerning gravity, light, fossils, earthquakes, and the history of the Earth.

From naming the cell to explaining elasticity, Hookeโ€™s curiosity helped generations understand both the microscopic world and the physical forces surrounding it.

Happy 391st birth anniversary to Robert Hookeโ€”the scientist who helped make the invisible visible. ๐Ÿ”ฌโœจ
