SAMAL, Philippines—Kabataang FPOP (KFPOP) Davao Vice Chairperson Brix Jomil Formentera conducted a discussion on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRHR) and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in Barangay Tambo, Island Garden City of Samal, in collaboration with Child Act Mindanao (CAM), October 13, 2026.

The activity aimed to promote awareness and understanding of adolescent sexual and reproductive health, emphasizing the importance of accurate information, informed decision-making, and access to youth-friendly health education.

Through the discussion, participants were given an opportunity to learn about relevant ASRHR and CSE topics that support young people's well-being, safety, and personal development.

The collaboration between KFPOP Davao and CAM highlights the importance of partnerships in advancing youth-centered education and advocacy, particularly in promoting the rights, protection, and well-being of adolescents in local communities.

The initiative reflects the continuing commitment of youth advocates and partner organizations to make accurate, age-appropriate, and accessible health information available to young people.

Jey Macalawa, Davao Chapter Chairperson of Kabataang Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (KFPOP), discussed conflict resolution during the ASCEND Interschool Leadership Summit organized by Uswag Mindanao on October 10 at Jesus and Mary Thevenet School.

Representing KFPOP Davao, Macalawa shared insights on conflict resolution as an essential leadership skill, highlighting the importance of addressing disagreements constructively and fostering understanding among student leaders.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 ☀️

A youth leader, advocate, public servant, and passionate voice for the young people of Caraga.

He currently serves as the Sangguniang Kabataan Chairperson of Barangay Lipata, Surigao City, while actively contributing to youth development, advocacy, and civic engagement at the local, national, and international levels.

He is a graduate of Surigao del Norte State University with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Civil Service Professional Level Passer. Beyond his academic background, he has taken on leadership roles in organizations such as the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines, Tingog Kabatan-onan Organization, National Anti-Poverty Commission, and various youth and civic organizations.

His experience extends to international and national youth platforms, including speaking at the World Urban Forum 13 in Baku, Azerbaijan, and the Asia Pacific Youth Regional Concurrence 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. He has also participated in programs on youth leadership, sustainability, comprehensive sexuality education, conflict-sensitive journalism, and peacebuilding.

A strong advocate for youth participation, he has been recognized through various awards in leadership, debate, advocacy, digital media, and community involvement.

From the barangay to the global stage, his journey reflects a commitment to creating spaces where young people can speak, lead, and make a difference.

Here’s to a leader who continues to turn experience into action and advocacy into impact.

Kabataang FPOP Davao joined the Circular Economy Festival at Rizal Park, Davao City, because we believe that protecting the environment is also part of protecting people, families, and their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

A circular economy means changing the way we produce and consume, reducing waste, reusing and recycling resources, and preventing pollution so that our environment remains healthy and sustainable for generations to come.

But why does this matter to SRHR Advocacy?

Because the environment we live in affects our health and the health of our families. Pollution, unsafe water, poor sanitation, improper waste disposal, and environmental degradation can contribute to health problems that affect pregnancy, children, families, and communities.

For Kabataang FPOP Davao, SRHR is not only about what happens inside a clinic. It is also about creating safe, healthy, and supportive environments where people can live, grow, build families, and make informed decisions about their health and future.

🇵🇭🌏 FROM DAVAO TO MONGOLIA | A YOUTH LEADERSHIP JOURNEY

A new chapter begins in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Jey Macalawa, Kabataang FPOP National Chairperson and Chairperson of Kabataang FPOP Davao Chapter, will represent the Philippines at the Actions for Earth – Global Youth Summit Mongolia 2026, bringing the perspectives and experiences of a young leader from Davao into an international space.

The Global Youth Summit brings together young people from different countries to connect, exchange perspectives, and explore meaningful actions toward a more sustainable and inclusive future.

‎From September 10–12, 2026, Jey will participate in the Workshop on Ethical Impact Story and Case Study Writing for Non-Writers at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel.
‎
‎The workshop focuses on ethical storytelling, case study development, documentation, evidence gathering, and research communication skills that can contribute to stronger advocacy work, community documentation, and responsible representation of young people’s experiences.
‎
‎As both a chapter and national youth leader, Jey carries with him the experiences and perspectives of Kabataang FPOP Davao and its volunteers. The goal is not only to represent the chapter beyond Davao, but also to bring relevant insights back to the organization and the communities it serves.

‎After the Manila engagement, Jey will return briefly to Davao on September 13 before continuing to Mongolia on September 14 for the Actions for Earth – Global Youth Summit Mongolia 2026.
