The Safe Spaces - CNU 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗼. We stand as representatives for students who are victims of gender-based violence, discrimination, abuse, and its ramifications. Through this, a safe space for everyone regardless of gender expression, physical, and financial capacity, is within our reach.

𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄 𝐒𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐒 - 𝐂𝐍𝐔 𝐀𝐓 𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄 🩷💜

To gear up for the new academic year, Safe Spaces - CNU was invited to speak at the 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗸 𝗘𝘀𝗸𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 in front of the students of the College of Arts and the broader CNU community present!

Represented by Chairperson Caryl, she formally introduced the socialist feminist organization’s advocacy for safety and gender equity inside the campus and even beyond it. She also once again echoed the collective disapproval against the recently released OSAS advisory, explicitly stating Safe Spaces - CNU’s opposition to it and firmly rejecting its implementation, standing in solidarity with the student body and fellow progressive campus organizations.

Moreover, she also shed light on another concerning matters about the student manual, specifically with its clear implementation of the outdated Anti Sexual Harassment Act of 1995 or RA 7877. She emphasized the need to reevaluate the manual's definition of sexual harassment and implement the Safe Spaces Act instead.

We strongly believe that a university must adopt a comprehensive modern standard that protects students from harassment by anyone, anywhere on campus or online.

𝗞𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗼 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝘆𝗮!

The Safe Spaces Movement Federation, along with Partido Manggagawa Kabataan and the College of Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Sciences - Student Council of Cebu Normal University, attended a three-day training titled 𝗔𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗺𝗮𝗼𝗻, 𝗔𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗮𝗵𝘂𝗺 on July 10 - 12. It is a program packed with interactive discussions and engaging workshops aimed at enlightening the youth about the harmful systems our state and the world are facing at present.

The first day featured Josua Mata, the Secretary General of Sentro, who discussed capitalism – its evolution, manifestations, and possible solutions. He discussed the global polycrisis where capitalism is thriving, democracy is backsliding, climate change is increasingly affecting us all, and the left wing is divided.

On the second day, Jean Enriquez, the Executive Director of Coalition Against Trafficking In Women – Asia Pacific (CATW-AP), facilitated a talk on feminism and the laws in our country that safeguard women and children from exploitation. She emphasized the social constructs that shaped patriarchy such as gender, division of labor, and the arousal of men which is only driven by frequent exposure to po*******hy. The last day concluded with Josua Mata delivering a lesson on democracy and how the youth can organize better to fight against a system where democracy is eroded.

Altogether, the training aims to educate the youth on socialism and feminism. These systems are so heavily embedded in our society that they have become intertwined as one. It is important to recognize that even in our language, patriarchy is present and in our everyday lives, capitalism can be heavily felt.

In this age where we, the youth, are at the forefront of change, we must learn the historical significance and contextualized meanings of these harmful systems. We come together to unite in numbers and completely dismantle them.

Last May 9, 2026, Labarn Beshieee Delegates attended the program’s First Session. Joined by some invited public participants, they engaged in a meaningful discussion on SOGIESC with Mx. Lovely Vasquez, a SOGIESC Advocate, Staff of Babaylanes Inc., and a Student Leader from Bulacan State University.

On behalf of the team, we also extend our sincerest gratitude to Babaylanes Inc. and the University of the Philippines Center for Women’s and Gender Studies for assisting us in this session.
