BEFORE MODERN ANTIMALARIALS... THERE WAS A TREE.
Long before modern antimalarial medicines were developed, people relied on the bark of the cinchona tree to help treat fevers. ๐ณ
What began as a traditional remedy eventually led to one of the most significant discoveries in the history of medicine.
In 1820, French chemists Pierre Joseph Pelletier and Joseph Bienaimรฉ Caventou isolated quinine from cinchona bark, transforming centuries of traditional knowledge into one of the first effective medicines against malaria. This breakthrough not only changed the fight against one of the world's deadliest diseases but also paved the way for the development of future antimalarial medicines.
