In the year 1871, the ๐—จ๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ฆ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ง๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜€ (๐—จ๐—ฆ๐—ง) founded its Faculty of Pharmacy, creating a significant milestone in formal pharmaceutical education in the Philippines. One of its distinguished pioneers was ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒรณ๐—ป ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟรญ๐—ฎ ๐—š๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ผ, the ๐™›๐™ž๐™ง๐™จ๐™ฉ ๐™ก๐™ž๐™˜๐™š๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™š๐™™ ๐™ฅ๐™๐™–๐™ง๐™ข๐™–๐™˜๐™ž๐™จ๐™ฉ in the country who later became known as the โ€œ๐‘ญ๐’‚๐’•๐’‰๐’†๐’“ ๐’๐’‡ ๐‘ท๐’‰๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’‘๐’‘๐’Š๐’๐’† ๐‘ท๐’‰๐’‚๐’“๐’Ž๐’‚๐’„๐’š.โ€

The profession continued to evolve. In 1924, UST opened its doors to women, creating new opportunities in the profession and paving the way for ๐—™๐—ถ๐—น๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฎ ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ผ, the ๐’‡๐’Š๐’“๐’”๐’• ๐’‡๐’†๐’Ž๐’‚๐’๐’† ๐’‘๐’‰๐’‚๐’“๐’Ž๐’‚๐’„๐’Š๐’”๐’• ๐’Š๐’ ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐‘ท๐’‰๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’‘๐’‘๐’Š๐’๐’†๐’”.

Whether it is Guerreroโ€™s trailblazing role in pharmacy and Philippine botany or USTโ€™s impact on the field of pharmaceutical education and research, these pioneers have proven themselves to be great contributors in their respective fields. Their work has made pharmacy the profession that we practice today because of its reliance on science, service, and passion to help others.
