NPCโs Caliraya Lumot Watershed Area Team (CLWAT) recently conducted informative lectures on Caliraya Lumot Watershed Forest Reserve (CLWFR) for some 100 pupils of Lewin Elementary School and Caliraya Elementary School.
As part of the NPCโs initiative to raise awareness on the conservation and protection of the CLWFR, the lecture covered key information on the Caliraya and Lumot lakes, the role and significance of watersheds, the challenges that NPC faces as it manages the reservation, prohibited activities in the vicinity, and strategies that can help in its conservation.
The students from different grade levels actively participated in the discussions as they gained a meaningful understanding of the importance of watersheds and their impact on our daily lives.
NPC will hold another series of lectures in Kalayaan and Paete in March and April 2024. NPC-CLWAT targets to educate students from 13 schools within the CLWFR.
Caliraya-Lumot Watershed, a proclaimed reservation under Proclamation 573, is one of the 11 watersheds under NPCโs jurisdiction. It has a total land area of about 16,319 hectares including the physical boundary of the whole watershed.
